Default 09 Buck is Home

My 2009 archery mulie was delivered last night and boy am I ever pleased with how it turned out. As always, Islander did an absolutly fantastic job. Thanks bud!

There's a couple of things to mention about this deer that make it a really unique trophy. (The full story and field pics can be found here: http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=46029)

First, the buck had a broken front leg. Kindda figured it was from a sparring match, but it didn't end there. While Islander was in the process of preparing the skull, he discovered that the nose was also also badly broken, as well as the orbital bone. However, the most devestating injury was in his mouth. Not only was the roof torn off but the bone beneath was also shattered! I can't imagine how much pain he must have been in at the time, and with the way the weather turned in December we're fairly certain that this old warrior would have perished. Hopefully the monster that inflicted these injuries makes it into next season.

Just had to throw in a kid pic!

Broken nose (glued into place).

Broken Orbital (glued back into place).

Roof of mouth. The piece of bone fell compleatly out.

The 2009 Collection.

Good lookin' mounts....I'm guessing the big guy took a kick in the side of the face to cause that much damage.

Nice looking trophies there Tree! Hey do you think that mulie might have been hit by a car? Seems like too much damage to me from just fighting. Broken leg, maybe. Broken face, maybe. But broken leg and face from another deer?? Seems unlikely to me. But it doesn't matter in the end either way. Great job and thanks for the entertaining dialogue throughout the season! Regards! Ben.

If not for the damage to the roof of his mouth, I'd have said car too. My partner got a crack at one in there the previous week that he described as, "an absolute MONSTER". His standards are so impossibly high (described Stinkey Coyote's 200" as very nice), that this was likely the beast that inflicted the damage. Hopefully he winters well!

Great deer and even better with the story about the damage. While at the taxidermist this fall he showed me a euro mount that had a broadhead in the nose cavity. The shaft went to the outside of the nose and the bone had grown back around it.It would have suffered this ijury in a previous season and while it was alive showed no signs of a earlier injury.Never would have discovered this if not for euro mount.Just wish I would have gotten a picture of it.Again great story and deer.FH
