My friend and I were getting into the car after a morning hunt at Collet natural area.

I suppose most users don't realize hunting (archery only) is legal there.

We try to stay low profile (don't walk on the trails with bows in hand, hunt well away from the trails).

Today as we were loading the bows, an SUV with a young couple inside cruised slowly past. After we got in the car, it turned around the the guy inside took a photo of our license plate.

Annoying, but what can you do?

This is just an unfortunate consequence of more and more development in areas that were once untouched. The woods are filling up with those who want to "Live green " If you aren't breaking the law then tell them to go f** themselves if they don't like it and go about your hunt.

With a bit of luck they'll be there to take a picture of you dragging out a big buck.

My Kerry almost lay the hurt to some self righteous bow hunters once years ago, who did not want him and his brother rifle hunting in "their" area. It was public land and they were preaching about being 'pure' hunters, then buddy slips around to write down his license number.

He was lucky Kerry didn't pull his head off...

You gave a reasonable explanation to why they may have done what they did.

If they didn't know that hunting was legal there then they would think you may have been doing some non-legal hunting and collected information to pass on to RAP. Which is the kind of thing we usually applaud on here.

When ever I get confronted by someone suspicious about my activities I explain what i am doing and thank them for being watchful for illegal activity.

Wave and stop them, then take a picture of theirs. Just to be on the safe side.

thats right oko, take there pic, harrassing a legal hunter is also illegal. (not saying that you were harrassed here...but).
i beleive the area has "no discharging firearms" signage. and rightfully so, there is alot of traffic in the area.

Good to see people concerned about Alberta's wildlife and recording information about what they consider suspicious activity.

Exactly.. Too many people "look the other way". I would've done the exact same thing (although, I would've been more discrete about it).

Get a bumper sticker that promotes hunting, maybe a bowhunting sticker.

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago. I had permission to hunt private land which during the growing season was rented to another area landowner. The renter came down the road while I was preparing to go to the blind. When I saw the driver record my license plate number I walked over told them my name as well. After that conversation I had gained 2 extra quarters of land to hunt on. Talk to these people if they're willing and usually it will clear up a situation peacefully.

not harassment,but if you were to take "action" against someone who did that,i would like you to do some serious jail time. the plate is there for just that reason.

i've driven right up beside a suspicious vehicle and snapped their pictures,a picture of a license plate.... LOL!

JJCollet has been posted on here before,those that know,know. those that don't,don't. it is a perfect example of how bowhunters and the public in general can co-exist in a small area(quarter). now expand that philosophy and ask yourself why would a grazing lease holder have issues letting a bowhunter on a lease with cows on it. are cows more important than a human? see where im going.....

This reminds me of a good laugh I had many years back Hunting in Blackfoot Grazing reserve one snowy november day.

I had just got to the main trail to the parking lot from my morning sit when a crosscountry skier wearing a dayglo purple spandex ski suit came sliding to a stop about 5 feet from me.

He grew all roundeyed and said to me "Oooh I didnt know people were allowed to HUNT in here

As anyone who has been to Blackfoot can attest Huge sign in the Parking lot stating this is a Multi use area biking hiking birdwatching AND hunting allowed during open game seasons and Treaty's for subsistence allowed all year... Yadda yadda. So I pleasantly informed him of this

He then with an intent serious look on his face asks me if I think he should be wearing all red

Sad to say but I lost all my composure and LOL'd out loud and sez I "Buddy as long as Barney the Dinosaur isnt considered a Game animal in Alberta I think your safe.
