Default Cheap gas

Gas is $109.9/L at the Co-op on Jennifer Hell Way in Spruce Grove (just north of the YH Trail). Since last night.

They are very busy. Expect at least a 20 minute wait to get a pump.

Even at .20c difference i don't get it... Most vehicles have 60L tanks. Even if they show up bone dry, and bring 2*20L jerry cans, it'll be 100L, so the savings are $20. And most would only top up, so we are taking about 30L - $6? Is it worth standing (idling too) for 20m in line?

Moreso, if that price is a sign of things to come, cheap gas soon will be everywhere. If it's a over time thing - back to my math...

What is that, 95.6 without the carbon tax?

The thing is, gas prices in Stony Plain have been below $1.25/L now for about four months. Currently, it’s $1.21/L in Stony. But when I saw the Co-op in Spruce this morning, I was aghast. I asked the attendant what was up, and he said they got the word on Tuesday evening to lower it to $1.09/L. And they’ve been extremely busy ever since.

I remember the gas price wars in Stony, down to 30 cents/L at one time.... farmers lining up with tidy tanks. Ahh, the good ole days.

Yeah….I guess we shouldn’t be “happy” to see gas over a buck a litre.

I actually worked at the Stony Plain Coop Gas station when we went to 29.9 cents per litre! You are right, the farmers were all lined up and I remember it well. It was during the Gulf war. Never pumped so much gas before. Good times.

Before Coop, I did a 3 month stint at Propane Shack (remember them?) on Stony Plain road in Edmonton almost where the Henday is now. We had the lowest propane price in the city most of the time. On average around 12 to 14 cents per litre back then. Wasn't taxed in those days. One day the boss calls up and says: Hey, just for the hell of it, drop the price to 6.9!!

Holy crap did word get around fast. NO internet in those days and soon there was a lineup of taxis all the way to CFRN. THAT was busy lol. Price went back to normal the next morning.

I have so many stories of that place, and I was only there a short time lol.

As for the Coop in Spruce Grove dropping to 109.9, I drove by after work today and it was back to 122.9.

That station has been cheap and a complete disaster since it opened. It's always a ****show unless you go there before 6 am.

its a small lot and people keep blabbing online (im looking at you OP) about the cheap fuel and it keeps getting worse. They need to hire a full time lot attendant just to keep a flow of traffic. More than once while fueling I have had a line form at both my front, AND, rear bumper. I'm not sure if they were expecting me to have side thrust on my truck but I was stuck there for about 20 minutes before I could exit the lot.

Maybe you should try the Fast-Gas in Stony. Always the cheapest fuel. Except when a 24 hour discount like the one I posted above happens. This afternoon it's $121.9/L.

Just a thought to help you with your first world problem.

It was hovering round 12.5-15 cents/L when I converted Rusty, still have the magnets inside the cab. Used to hit up Propane Shack every Friday before the wkd as I only had 80L useable, you probably filled my tank a few times...It literally was a shack, lol.

Filled up at the Smoky Lake Shell last night for $1.19 on my way back from hunting, with the AMA discount it was $1.16.
Still a long ways off from where it should be but a lot better that the $1.40+ that it was for awhile....

Pfft, I remember 54 cents a gallon

We could make a lot of money selling tickets to that Time Machine ride. Everything back then was better except for optics and factory ammo lol

Except paychecks. How much was a guy making back then? I know that, in my case at least, fuel is way more affordable now-a-days.

Most households were single income, just smaller homes, less toys, and all inclusive vacations. I’ll go out on a solid limb and say life in Canada was a better place.

Anyway this is a gas price thread so I’ll apologize to the class in advance for the derail. Gas in Spruce/Stony has been some of the cheapest in Berta lately
