Default Remington 11-87 sportsman

Hi

I am thinking about buying a Remington 11-87 semi-auto shotgun. Can I get some opinions on the quality of the gun?

Any feedback welcome!

Well made gun, made when Remington still had pretty good quality. Biggest factor is round count, if it was used for high volume shooting of clays any shotgun will wear. If it was just hunted, it will last forever.

My cousin has an 11-87 Premier, that I got to put some rounds through last spring. Awesome gun - straight to the shoulder, and little felt recoil when the round was touched off. Wish I had one myself !! I suspect the "Sportsman" would be similar.

I have a left hand 11-87. It has a lot of rounds through it from 2-3/4 target loads to 3” goose loads. Cycles them all flawlessly. Very mild recoil.

I may have to check out the book you quoted!

My father bought one way back brand new want through a box of shells and that was all she wrote. This was during the registry so took a year and a half to get a replacement as he needed a new receiver with serial #s. He bought a Berretta and has had zero problems since. I am sure Remington makes some great products but that scenario turned me from the brand entirely.

I have an 11-87 Premier. I have handled the Sportsman as well. Both are solid guns but the Premier is lighter ( barrel contour), has a metal trigger guard, and generally just feels better. Internals are the same. The gas operated action makes for soft recoil. Mine digests pretty much any ammo happily.

I would recommend the Premier if you can find one.

As per prior responses, the gun will last a lifetime if just used for hunting.
