Default Easy Range Membership to Meet CFC Requirement

I bet many know the drill. What a nuisance this is.

I need a range membership to approve my RPAL. I will never show up to shoot my restricted firearms, I have them but they are not my thing anymore, I much prefer to shoot a rifle. But I would like to keep my RPAL and handguns, mainly to ensure grandfathering in the future..

I live in the north, don't know how much CFC cares about where the range membership is located?

Can anyone please suggest a range that will make this process easy for me during COVID isolation? And even better yet...... kinda cheap. Wifey keeps telling me this is a waste of money..... to me, it is more principle. She doesn't get it.

Thanks in advance guys.

There's a place in Pentiction or somewhere down there that does essentially virtual memberships which satisfy the requirement. Can't remember their info though.

You can get a membership from another province? Never would have guessed.

They are looking for one.

I had to send in my range membership for them to process my renewal a month ago.

However, you can't let your RPAL lapse because you need it to possess the restricteds and to buy ammo. If a range in another province will fit the requirement, there is an company called Silvercore that costs $49.00 and meets the club requirement.

Yet the CFO refused to approve my renewal until I sent proof of a range membership.

Not speaking to the OP specifically but just in general. There used to be the “shooters guild” that was a way to “satisfy” requirements. I always look at this situation in that, why not support a local range? It might cost you a few more dollars, but support local. We need ranges open more now than ever.... they need our support. They get that through membership fees. Find a local range, get involved, put your money there... you will thank yourself later for it.

I believe Phoenix has a basic membership you can get. Yearly as well for a fair price if I remember right.

<---- This x 2. You cover the obnoxious CFO 'requirement', plus you get to support their outdoors programs while doing so.

Default aheia meets RPAL range requirements?

So I'm a member of AHEIA, figure supporting a good cause is never a bad idea, does this still meet the range membership requirements for my RPAL? I saw old references to a range they had somewhere farther north but I have been all over the website and I can't find anything regarding that. Do I just send in my AHEIA membership when I renew for the RPAL? I don't have anything that requires it yet but I'd really like to get something to be grandfathered in case the rules change. Just haven't gotten around to actually buying anything yet but this would make it a lot easier. Thanks!

I called the local range first and was told they don't want people, even locals, who don't plan to be regular members.

I thought they would be happy to take the money.

That's akin to a landlord not wanting a tenant who pays rent and doesn't even move in. Not particularly smart from a business perspective.

If you want to Join Camrose Shooting Sports Association it's pretty reasonable for the year. On line registration now. If you have any problems PM me . Only drawback is we are shut down until after the Covid restrictions If you are into handguns we have action shooting bays and an active group if your interested.

If you are up north, try Valleyview or Fairview, both very reasonable. I know a few people who have memberships there. Used to be $50?

Not really, they probably have a membership cap and want to make sure the memberships go to people that will use it. Makes good sense to me.

So glad I don’t have to have a range membership for my ARs or hand guns! I feel bad for you all up north!

If you know some aren't using it, raise the cap accordingly. Its exceedingly simple, but I guess some just insist on complicating things for themselves.

Default AHEIA all the way

Completely acceptable.

Alberta based

Supports shooting sports in AB.

CFO did not ask me for proof when I told them I was AHEIA member
Completed a few Restricted Transfers with no issue.
