Whats the differents in Leopold VX 1 VX-11 VX-111 besides the name .

The VXI has friction dials and the VXII and VXIII has click adjustments, better glass, more reticle options and probably tougher.

Tons of online resources as has been suggested.

smartass.... but I do agree. I have a VXII and am very happy with it. I'm sure the VXIII is better, just no sure how much better it could be. Looked at the III but the only thing it offered that I wanted was the B&C range-finding reticle, which in the end I didn't want to pay extra for.

the new VX 3 has the new lens coating, thats the only difference as far as I know from the VX III

If you looked thru a VX1, then took a sip of coffee, then looked thru a VXII, you would see no difference.

Chances are, if you put them side by side you would see no difference.

Leupold doesnt make a crappy scope.

i completely agree.for a straight up hunting scope that is not going to break the bank the vx1 is a good one.the one option that is available for the vx1 is the long range reticle.although not as pretty as the b+c reticle it serves the purpose well.

The VX3 also has double springs in the erector, this keeps the scope tracking well when adjusting the windage/elevation and should also help the scope keep it's zero a little better.

I have a VXII that has had to have the adjustments fixed twice now, always done quickly and under warrenty, but it's a pain in the but and I am without the scope for a bit. I have a VXIII that holds it's zero but has a few black flecks beside the retical, not a big deal but on a thousand dollar scope you don't expect to find the same things as a 50 dollar walmart scope. I have also seen two rifleman series scopes go bad in the last year, both would not hold thier zero from one shot to the next.

I have a bunch of leupold scopes and will continue to buy them, but they are charging alot for the name, and there have been quality issues. I wouldn't just assume you will get a good scope because it has a golden ring.

I have a VX111 3.5-10X40 very happy with it. Stayed true for 25 years .
Sounds like if I don't want to be sending one in for warrente I should get nothing less than a VX3
Do they have a VX 4 now ?

They have a VX-7 and VXL. They're both quite bulky compared to the VX1-3's in my opinion. And the lens coating on the VX3 is the Extended Twilight lens coating system. I just bought a 3.5-10x40 and its a nice piece of glass. I'm also pretty sure that the 2009 VX3's are now filled with Argon Krypton gas instead of the Nitrogen as well.

Really a VXIII that is 25 years old?The VXIII was not introduced until 2004.

My mistake its a Vari x iii .
Must be one of the better scopes ,had since 1985 ,been on lots of different riffle.Seen lots of hunts . Never been in for warrente,and still hold zero, shot after shot.

I have one that I bought used about 15 years ago, a straight 6 power. Cna't remember if its FXII or III or whatever...but I would guess that it's from the late 70's early eighties. It has been on at least 8-9 different rifles from a 22lr to a 338 win and it still holds it's zero. I think some of the older leupolds were assembled with a little more care.

I looked thru a VX3 yest (I was actually looking for binos but remembered this thread - I admit it I am an addict..) looked pretty good, they had a vxIII, both 4.5-14x40 and the vx3 seemed much sharper to me looking at an eye chart across the store, I tried focusing both but the vx3 seemed a bit better.

Not to worry that is a very common mistake and it makes me wonder if what marketing strategy they had when they created the abbreviated form.
