Default Great Video on civil forfeiture in Canada

Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but it deals with police/government stealing private property under the pretext of criminal association and the benefits accrued to gov under this guise.

Funny how many comments this thread got.

This all about the reasons I detest the current law enforcement direction of creating "revenue streams" and the abuse it leads to. It's also why I take umbrage with the morons who can see the very dangerous road that we, as a society are being pushed down for our own safety, and can only respond by the simpleton reply of " if you don't like it, don't speed". All they can see is the simple rules and not the trend, not the dangers to society, not the injustices, and definitely not the world it going to create.

George Orwell seen what it's all about.

Going to make a donation to the Canadian Constitution Foundation and photocopy the tax receipt which I wil be forwarding to the Conservative party with a note that all my donations from now on will be going to someone that is doing something to increase liberty in Canada.

If we can't get the Cons to do something about this we will be screwbarred.

This is one thing I have noticed, that a lot of people on both sides of the aisle are moving towards the realization that excess government just tends towards tyranny. The smaller the government and bureaucracy the more liberty people tend to have. The Cons would be wise to capitalize on this.

FG, conservatives do tend towards libertarianism more so than socialists or liberals. It's an inherent part of the ideology of conservatives, but not necessarily Conservatives. Calling the Conservatives, conservatives is a bit of a misnomer...they are slightly more conservative than any other federal party...which is all they really need to be to capture the votes to the right of the Liberal party, but I'm not sure I'd call the Conservatives, conservatives.

Absolutely disagree with this.

Many socially-minded Canadians, particularly younger voters would very happily support a libertarian type party/rep.

I tend to think that conservatives don't mind change, it just has to be thought out and not just change for change's sake.

Liberals want freedom as well. This is not a radical idea to most. They just want to make sure everyone's freedom is protected by law.

Both ideals are not entirely incompatible.

Both also can lead to inaction in times of necessary change and getting hamstrung trying to protect ideals (or sacred cows which are delicious).

I do strongly agree that most people on either side are tired of thirteen layers of government needing to be in agreement to do anything that might come close to "common sense."

It will be interesting to see how many folks remember this thread when election time rolls around.
Actually... I'm betting that muscle memory will kick in long before that.

Party politics is for suckers....we need to get rid of the parties and the money from politics if we want to save democracy.
