It worked in my 06 Charger and that's all the experience I have to go on. In my 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton the head lights and tail lights come on automatically when it's not completely light out, I haven't used the headlight switch since I bought it.
We have the technology for vehicles to automatically turn the lights on when necessary, every vehicle sold should come with this feature IMO.
