2000 f150 4x4 not working?
Hi, I have a 2000 f150 and today when I engaged the 4x4 it worked fine but it started to make a clicking noise. Later on I made a turn in the field while in 4x4 and it made a loud bang and now the 4x4 won't work. Any ideas about why 4x4 won't work anymore?

I'm not a mechanic but had the same problem a while back. The dealership told me the 4X4 didn't fully engage because of faulty electric solenoid/vacuum "widget". Busted the 4x4 hub in the process. Got it fixed and two weeks later the other side went.

Check the vacum solonoid. It is a $30 part from ford. Just unpub the old one and plug in the new one. It is right up against the firewall. Sometimes they get wet and stop working. The new ones have a schroud on them to keep the water out.
Happened to my 2006 F-150 and this fixed it right up

CV axel joint will make click, click on the way out, then bang(concurrent with a turn)as this is when most torque forces are working on the CV joint, fairly simple fix, $150 CV axel , 1 hour shop so exp mechanic can replace CV axel
or
a lot of miles on the T-Case ? and
the same forces exert heavy load on the transfer case chain and gears when making a turn under power/acceleration, BANG chain jumps gears,
T Case is scrap,
to fix, factory rebuilt T Case about $1500 to $2000 depending where you purchase, about 3 hours mechanic to re&re TCase, fill with oil

If it is the transfer case I have a 2001 and 2004 here helluva lot cheaper than $1500 to $2000

There is no 'bang' if the vacuum solenoid is not releasing. The truck is always in 4wd unless you put it in 2wd; the switch releases the vacuum allowing the hubs to engage.

My bet would be shift fork in front diff that locks front hubs, no vacuum hubs on that year of truck. Very common for the fork to break.

there are different TCases in similar model years of F150 4x4 pu trucks, use the TCase ID tags to compare your truck and the buyers truck !
some have manual shift TCase hifter on floor,
, most have electric 4x4 selector switch on dash,
