Default City of Edmonton - ?? spending priorities ??

Just when you think that the City administration cannot get any more out of touch with the needs of the city and the high taxes we pay they come up with another new goodie --- hitting it out of the park -- almost as good as Tookers flooding the streets and skating to work

Special street lights and coverings for bike lanes. This socialist administration has no end to how they will spend other peoples money.

Interesting that this gem was not in Sohi's response letter to the province requesting funding being restored to address priorities. This just shows how out of touch this administration council is. Get more money -- waste is on soccer bids, electric buses and now street lighting for bike lanes.

The province needs to say no more money deal with what you have and let the citizens vote these clowns out.

I live here and couldn't agree more with this statement.

Maybe while there at it they can put coverings over all the streets and sell of their snow plows and street sweepers. Funny they haven't bought electric snow plows, graders and sweepers. In for a penny, in for a pound.

While I support bike lanes, they get cars off the road, they get help get people active and healthier, and they’re cheaper to maintain than roads. This is a ridiculous ask. Keep building out the network and install lights later on. Way too tight of a budget crunch currently for it to be worthwhile. Most who bike early mornings/later at night have either a headlamp or light on their bike anyway.

I know there are a lot of things we don't agree on regarding city spending, but I honestly believe that we all could retire easily with the money government wastes on buying votes. I'm sick and tired of politicians at every level, and of every stripe. They all just work for themselves under the guise of "working for the people". GET LOST!!!

Holy crap this council and the minions that bring these proposals to them are out of control. I can just hear Sohi & his band of idiot councilors saying how these lights will get more people biking. Ugggh, the urge to move out of Redmonton is getting stronger and stronger.

Yet I fear come the next election, most will get back in. What happened to this city since Bill Smith is sad.

She needs to step back, and let them deal with their financial issues, most importantly, no provincial money to bail Edmonton out of the mess they created.

Imagine if every level of government cut the woke spending out of their budgets. If they cut the BS green initiatives out of their budgets. The numbers would be mind boggling.

We would be operating at a surplus, and paying off the debt, and taxes could be reduced.

Bike lanes are a great deal for both of the cyclists in Edmonton that use them.

Stupid question... Isn't there already street lamps for the roads? And the bike lanes are part of said roads?

Or.. (and maybe I shouldn't be surprised) does Edmonton do bike lanes different than Calgary?

I was recently down in Seattle. Their bike lane system is much more advanced, they have these lights that are red/green/yellow specifically for the bike lane. I’m assuming that allows them to do different things for intersection control. I totally agree with building out the network first before getting into these smaller details .

Come on now, no need to exaggerate out of the million people in Edmonton, there might be 100 people using those lanes for year round transportation.

Even if there were a hundred, that would be spending $100M for a hundred people, or $1M per person. That would be pure insanity .I wonder if the fools spending so much money have even made an effort to count the people using those bike lanes as transportation?

All this nonsense is courtesy of the WEF influenced Canadian politicians. Every town or city has them.

Seattle, another of those US crap holes that has bigger fish to fry than lights on bike lanes.

Both Edmonton and Calgary City Councils are filled with true believers; in climate change, they have to make every person feel good about themselves, in socialism. There is no end to how much money they are willing to spend on items like these.

Meanwhile, Calgary streets are falling apart, Calgary Transit is being run into the ground. I better stop there.

Bike lanes in Edmonton winters are frequented the most by snow clearing equipment and zombies pushing shopping carts. Covering bike lanes is an amazing idea. I guess that full usage of our multi-billion dollar LRT system for the zombies to set up shop in isn't enough, we might as well go full-on West-Coast and enable the homeless addicts some more. Why try to help them on a road to sobriety, better mental health and shelter when you can "house" them on the streets where they are ripe for the loser criminal drug dealers' pickings? You go City Council, what a bunch of lowlife tax dollar sucking scumbags.

I really like KGB's idea, not only for the corrupt politicians but also for the prolific re-offending scumbag criminals in Edmonton. We might as well go full on medieval like Vlad the Impaler.

(I guess maybe I shouldn't have gone for a drive downtown yesterday)

Redmonton can deal with its own problems it creates. I feel bad for the minority of non woke people that live there. There’s better places in Alberta to live if you can move.
