Nice! make sure that harem stays well-fed; and you'll have some great eats, this fall!

Awesome!!!
I had no idea they started this early.
I'm just getting geared up for the Sharptails. As far as I can tell they haven't even started to display yet.
I got some nice photos of a Ruffy drumming a couple of years ago so now I'm looking to capture the Sharptails displaying.
They are both very interesting to watch.
Great capture!

Here's who"s at the "bird" feeder this morning.
I spilled out some wheat earlier in the winter for the birds but there's 8 ruffies and 2 rabbits taking advantage now.
Keg, ruffies always start this early but the sharptails won't get going for another month, likely.

They start earlier than this! They won't nest until there's bare ground to lay eggs on, but I have found nests full of eggs in the first half of April.
Last year, I recorded video of a male Spruce Grouse displaying to a female on Feb. 2!

I had no idea. I don't hear them drumming until the first part of April.
I used to watch the Sharpies dancing in early spring. I know when where and how to find them, I just haven't been able to capture them on camera, doing their thing.
I wouldn't even know where to start with Fool hens. And I haven't captured them displaying yet. That is also on my bucket list.

What do you use to feed Mr. Ruffy?
I found the ruffies and Huns like the big colourful bird mixes.
Andrew from this forum suggested vegetable peelings. I put carrot peels and cabbage leaves after the frost goes away. They seem to like the juicy vegetable parts.

Yup I've had a hen ruffie feeding all winter and a male showed up 10 days ago all flared out and puffed up like the photo. He's been chasing her around but so far she's having none of it. They eat a mix of oats and bird seed along with all the veggie peelings we have. Interesting to also see couple foxes wolfing down the oats and have seen coyotes also eating the oats and bird seed.
