Found my first couple Orange Tops last week while working. Went out looking for them yesterday and only found a few. Think it's still a tad early where I am. Ended up picking half an ice cream pails worth of wild strawberries instead

Nothing close to the bumper crop of the last year! We didn't have enough rain yet for mushrooms to grow. Found a few here and there but our dedicated trip west brought us nothing.
Love mushroom hunting so am looking forward to a few rainy days.

Terrible. I was out to one of my most reliable spots today, and there was nothing. The forest floor was bone-dry. We need rain before any mushrooms are going to pop up.

They look like Aspen or Birch boletes.
Very common in, well, Aspen and Birch stands.
First flush is usually in early July, then throughout the summer depending on rain.
Mushrooming around Calgary is dry dry dry.....
Got a few morels, a few oysters, a few boletes.
Nothing that couldn't be eaten in a meal or two.

Yesterday I went over to my brother's place in Edmonton; just sitting out in his backyard shooting the breeze. I look over at his apple tree and all around it and following the roots: Honey Mushrooms! In Ukrainian they call them Peeping-Keh! So I asked him if I could pick them! Sure take them all! They're not good for the tree, being parasitic. I took them home, cleaned them; very few wormy ones found. I cut them up, boiled them for 15 minutes. Strained them, put them in another pot with whipping cream, fresh dill weed, salt and pepper! Boiled everything until the cream thickened! WOW!
Usually I find them a little later in September in around birch trees, swampy areas where you find dead trees and their roots slightly submerged. That's where those suckers usually hang out!

I get a kick out of a thread called "mushroom" started by super Mario.
I'll only eat the white ones with pink gills, because I don't know enough about mushrooms, and that's what my family has always eaten. (Not dead yet, lol)
All this rain lately has produced them, but they're usually full of worms by the time I think I should go look for them.
