Ronaround, yes you are correct. Age and having taken a large number of animals over the years means the hunting is far more interesting than the work attendant on being successful. The young guys always end up figuring that out too, but there is no cure for shootiatess aside from age. I had it big time when I was young too.
I understand he has a cow tag. It’s the being thankful it’s not the game he’s after part. As a young buck (who’s also killed my fair share of game) I can’t relate to that. Not yet at least.

I have one thanks. Just didn't bring it. Prefer the walk. Lots of leather here.

I am not sure who you have access from but I have taken a few elk down there at this time of year and always did best in the breaks along the river......and yes the work required after is much more than the hunt itself......

Default Just a Suggestion

Hi: Like you, I am getting on in years. Packing an elk out of a deep coulee can be daunting. What I have done is made arrangements at a local Hutterite Colony to ask 1 or 2 of the guys to help me out...for a cash price. They are nice people and I find them helpful. They may even come with horses if you ask (check with your landowner to inquire if you can use someone else's horses on their property).
In the past, I have sought help for packing and truck pulling (if I got stuck) and goose plucking (hundreds of them). I have witnessed guiding (driving the truck really) for resident antelope and deer hunters.

My 2 cents

Hoopi

One tip, if you need a new freezer you may want to order it or at least reserve one. We bought a new large chest freezer in 2020, it took 6 months from time of order and there was no availability in stock anywhere. We sold the small chest freezer it replaced in a day for 50 bucks more than what we paid for it 6 years earlier.

costco has a 10.5cbf for $299 if anyone is still looking

would also tip my hats to cnp for taking on the cold challenge .

Default If they keep opening these late season hunts

along with the wolf problem, we soon won't have any elk to hunt.

You have no idea what you are talking about. These late season hunts have been around for at least 20 years and elk populations are still growing in most places.
