Just no intensity, like we played 20 minutes in the first and said, good enough.

Maybe it’s that team depth you mentioned earlier.

If one's watching the game, that doesn't seem to be it.

Want to guess again?

Yes but, that 2 = 6 on most teams.

Well between poor effort, and lack of puck luck. That's another L.
So glad we are riding a slump into the first BOA. Hopefully Oilers will be our slump buster

That was the worst I have seen the Flames defense play in about the last 4 years.

Can’t Argue that. Sure hope the players are amped up for the game. Gonna be different without fans to push the rivalry. I know Chucky is bringing the energy hope Kas can step up and engage in the game.

Bingo. Markstrom is good, but pretty sure that doesn't mean that zone defense is no longer required. They hung him out.

Markstrom is similar to Kiprusoff as they mask the true problems of the hockey club.
Their team isn't so bad if they play 60 minutes and be physical....Until then, they will be a one series team then, out.

I'm with you 100%. I think the skill is there, the depth, chemistry, whatever else you want to call it, pretty hard to coach intensity and desire though. Not sure if we've showen up for an entire 60 minutes yet. Seem to max out around 40.

Would love to see what happens if two of Lucic, Simone, Leivo, Nordstrom, Ryan, Backlund (even Gio, not that it would happen, but man he's had some boneheaded plays), etc. are sat and Rinaldo and Robinson slotted in. They might not score, but Robinson-Bennett-Rinaldo would be a fun line to watch. Especially against Edmonton, might have to do a PSA prior to the game though, make sure they all know hitting is allowed in the NHL.

Agreed. When they put in 60 minutes they usually win. Sadly doesn't happen near enough.
Hopefully Saturday is one of them nights.

Ward needs to go. Getting out coached nightly. Never liked him getting the job.

The coach is not the problem. How many coaches have this team and organization cycled through the last 10 years? Lots. At what point do one say it is not the coach, it is the players.

In a shorten and restricted travel season like this one, it is more like the playoffs than a regular season. A shortened season means that every game means more. Playing the same teams over and over again in a baseball style series means teams can focus on another teams weaknesses more than normal.

This team is playing like it did in the playoffs the last few years. Combined that with the Flames usual inconsistency in effort and play what did we expect?

Agreed. There's absolutely no leadership in that dressing room. Sadly I don't think Gio commands much respect (that was never really his style), and our two biggest stars are simply very poor leaders & don't show up when it counts.

We have some great young talent & finally a clear #1 goaltender - but we're just ****ing those away right now.

It's too bad Peters had to walk away - he seemed to be getting that dressing room figured out just before things went south for him. Ward simply rode that coat-tail of success (which was short-lived)

So I would say 80% of NHL teams could easily identify their next captain in the event their current retired or was traded. So for the Flames, who would that be? I know Gio won the Norris recently, but he seems to have lost something. He is not moving with the same efficiency or confidence and doesn't look like a 6.75 million dollar player.

Nice little stretch coming up here with the majority of games played against the 3 worst teams in the division. In the next 16, we only play Toronto, Montreal, and Winnipeg 3x. Hopefully they can get there game figured out here.

Is Calgary having a few inter-squad games during this stretch?

Probably not, just lots of Ottawa, Vancouver, and Edmonton.

Other than Milan Lucic, (arguably the flames best player) does anyone else on the roster have a Stanley cup ring?
