Heh! I like to point that out to the kids when we walk past that cat in the tree at Cabela's - "Did you see the cat up there?" It's amazing to see how easy it is to miss it while our attention is focused on all the shiny things at our level.

It's a good reminder to glance up from time to time when you're strolling along the trails...

Absolutely the worst experience with wild creature was attack of aggressive hummingbird when I was working on 24ft ladder. It was worse than angry grizzly mom in 30 yards.

I still have PTSD from my encounter with aggressive wildlife. Friend managed to record some of the event.

Had a bear follow us while walking along a tailings line for most of a morming, came out on the right ow ay a few times, mostly stayed in the edge of the bush though. Consatantly had them at the camp garbage area and the dump, sometimes 2-3 at the camp, 10-20 at the dump at times. Never really had any issues with bears at work or in the bush. Had one huff at me out near Hagensborg one day, was having a leak and it was across a very smalll slough, couldn't see it with the thick bush.
Had wolves run by me at probably 10ft, dog under my knee, singleshot shotgun, bit nervous there.
Had cougars at about 10-15 yds a couple of times, no issues there.
Moose at 5 ft, but, they weren't excited. Couple of ****ed off moose at 5 yds or so running around me.
Cow moose watching me gut her calf at about 20yds, bull called her over behind me, she took a wide berth around me over to him.
One cow moose on the same tailings line as the bear, steered her calf to a crossover, it wasn't steady enough on its legs to get over the 36" line, she bluff charged a couple of times, but, stopped at 15yds or so, other side of the line.
Gophers that did the standing bear and growl routine, one got kicked and landed on the garage roof, couldn't duplicate that one ever again. Few that I just pulled the gun on.

On griz stalked me for a few hours, it was unnerving but didn't get close enough for me to fear for my life.
Sow black bear charged me and she died a few yards from my feet, her hide covers my recliner.
A couple big salt water crocs when I lived in Australia while fishing came out of the water onto the bank after me(huge pucker factor there, as the do have huge teeth)
Some light charges from water buffalo in northern Australia.
A few bloody geese, boy do I hate those things.
A few big king brown snakes, again while living down under, those buggers I think can move faster than anything else I have ever seen.

Domestic geese are real ass****s, turkeys are a close second. Great watchdogs in a yard but a royal pain to deal with. Always a great sense of satisfaction at Thanksgiving/Xmas/Easter.

As bad as geese and turkeys are, they are in the minors compared to swans protecting a nest. Belonged to a fishing club in Ireland when I was growing up and we had a pair who nested on an island that we had to row past en route to the main lake from the dock. Hated Spring

Was fishing at Yellow Lake a long time ago when noticed a family of almost full grown mink darting amongst the rocks on shore . I quickly made a noose and eventually caught one by the foot so i started dragging it to a clearing . Pretty soon the mother came hissing and spitting after me , I let the line loose and the young one ran back .

One early spring with snow still in patches I found an owls nest up in a cottonwood , so decided climb up the 25 ft to have a look in the nest , the parents were clapping their bills at me 30 ft away , when all of a sudden when one hit me in the back of the head , pretty soon i got a frontal whap on the forehead . The dripping blood told me it was time to leave them alone, still have a faint scar on me noggin. On the walk back a giant Canada goose was sitting on its nest .... I gave it a wide berth lol , birds are hell .

Years ago was having a peaceful afternoon sea kayak paddle when from 12 feet away a bull sea lion shot up out of the water giving me the evil eye . He could have sunk me but decided a threat display was good enough . Got to live another day

First charge was a gray squirrel that ran up my leg and trunk when I was 4. Our farm dog, King, a big German Shepherd snatched him off me at around my face. I still remember his yellow front rodent incisor teeth closing in on me. Dog was chasing him and I was his escape plan. Didn't work out for him.

Since then I've had run ins with German Shepherds, a Rottweiler, Holsteins, javelinas, black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, raccoons, a doe mule deer and a badger. None of them died over the encounter, except the grizzly that ran past at 2 yards with my arrow in him. A few of the encounters left me a bit shook up that is for sure.

I had a Muskrat at about 4 feet away, rear up on it's hind legs and snarl - I kid you not. I was hunting a did edge for Sharptails.
I just backed away.
Anything more agressive from him would have received the 12 gauge cure.

Had a badger come at us shooting gophers in the ranger they are fearless if we had been on foot that would have been a bit of pucker factor , we named him Custer as it was his last stand

Pound by pound I think the fiercest critter I’ve be attacked by was a muskrat that I was chasing in the ditch. When it stopped and went into attack mode I knew I was in trouble.

Black bear gave me a good 'warning woof' one time, I didn't even know it was there in thick brush. I backed out quickly.
Canada geese a few times.
A swan that came off her nest when we were canoeing by, she was pretty aggressive and I held her off with my paddle.
But the worst and scariest was a skunk that was bound and determined the trail was his/hers; I detoured around through the bush.

Few years back, got stalked by a 2 legged pig at the Saddle Sore in Rocky...

Seriously...not really an attack, just a "provoked" situation.

Observed a mid size bull moose walking across a clear cut one year. Called him and finally got his attention. At the time, my buddy and I were hiding in tall grass.

This thing was coming straight at us. I kept barking at it. At around 100 yards, my buddy asked if we could shoot him. I told him let's see how close he gets.

At about 25-30 yards, was still coming. Could see the white of his eyes and snot coming out of his nose. This guy was ****ed and wanted the fight!

Both stood up and dispatch him. Thinking back...should have shot at him when my buddy asked...

They move faster that one thinks...

I admit, I was a bit spooked at that time...

One for the yearly story telling hunting gatherings...

I lion growling at you at about 20 yards will get your attention. I had an elephant bull express his displeasure with our presence too. Both attention getters!

Weasel ran up my pants once when I was a kid and baggy jeans were all the rage.

Had a coyote stalk my pup and I when we were walking at Nose Hill once. He never got close enough to matter but followed us for a good hour - hoping to pick off my 4 month lab at the time I guess.

Watched a yellow-jacket (wasp) fly out of the grass and up my Dad's pant leg once. That was a show I've never forgotten !

Well not a wild animal but wild enough. Big SOB of a Doberman at a gas station . old Gulf station near Speedy creek. Pulled up to pumps, guy came out , fill er up please. walked in station to take a leak and the @#^&%$ come at me hard. It was a bit after 7;00 am . i was probably first customer. Two holes in right hand and pocket tore right off my jacket. And that was dang scary at the time. Get your hand crunched like that sure does hurt. Had to drive another 200 miles and then go to hospital with wrapped up hand that was killin me and get tetnus shot . Ripped knuckle on ring finger just about off. the guy apologized and said he thought door was locked to the bay where mutt was supposed to be. He said "he's my guard dog" . Yah no kiddin.

I was never charged by a grizzly but once when elk hunting near Sundre with a first-time hunter, we were in the trees beside the river when we got close enough to one we heard his teeth clicking together. The other guy thought it was elk antlers hitting against each other. We slowly backed upwind, I was hoping we could just get our scent to it as we left the area. It gave us a good growl and we left.
2 hours later we were still in the same area, we heard another growl from in the trees.
Both times we didn't get eyes on the bear but he sure got our attention!

When I was out solo elk hunting one time I was on a slope over looking a nice clearing. I sat for a while and noticed a cow elk casually moving about 200 yards away on the edge of the clearing. I figured I would try one bugle to get the cows interest and listen for any response.
Well all of a sudden 5 yards behind me in all of his glory was a big bull elk. I wasn't prepared for him to run right in and had to jump up and get a tree between him and me. He was snorting and snotting and chasing me around this tree. I saw a bigger tree that had a couple branches that if I could get to them I could go up the tree and sit the bull elk out. I took the move and before I knew it the bull was right behind me and his antler's tine hooked into my pant leg just as I grabbed the lower branch of the big tree. I tried shaking my leg and to pull myself up but the bull elk kept pulling and pulling on my leg...just like I'm pulling yours.
~~
Seriously now, I was bluff charged by a good sized Black bear once. Glad he was bluffing because he came so fast that it would have felt like a freight train hitting me. I had no time to react even if I would have had a gun or bear spray.

I had one incident with a badger charging me too, when I was a kid. Luckily I had a single shot Deutsche Werke 22 and a couple 22 short shells. Ended up in a mexican stand off at 6 feet. The badger had the teeth but I had the gun. Also when i was a kid I climbed a tree to look at chicks in a hawk's nest. One of the adult hawks came in and smacked me but didn't get a talon in me. The hawk did draw blood from my scalp. I got down the tree with both adult hawks seriously trying to get me and then they chased me 20 or so yards still trying to smack me. That was scarier than the black bear or badger charge.

Worst one I had was getting between a deer and fawn on the golf course. Stood stock still and she got within three feet of me. Luckily the baby moved on pretty quick.

Also been charged by a couple wasps. So all in all pretty lucky

Black bear sow with 3 yearling cubs at a bait site come running out of the bush at me as I was walking up to the barrel to fill it. Fortunately they all stopped about 10' short. Can still picture them standing shoulder to shoulder looking at me. As I started to back out of there, she treed the cubs and then "escorted" me back to the truck 'cause I wouldn't give her the beaver I was carrying. She & 2 of her cubs were sporting ear tags, figured they were relocates from Ft. Mac. She repeated that once more before I shut the bait down to avoid anyone else having a problem with her.

Sitting in a tree stand one spring evening on a bowhunt, heard a bear coming through the swamp behind me. Was a sow with that springs cub in tow. Cool to see them interact until about 15 mins in she caught my sent. Ears laid back, hackles went up and with a grunt she sent the cub up a tree. Problem was she picked the tree I was in. Had to knock the little fur-ball out of the tree as he was coming up past me. Would have been the true "rock and a hard place" situation if it had got above me. She put him up another tree and then came back to lay a lickin' on me. Absolutely amazing how fast they can climb a tree. Luckily, she stopped with her nose about a foot from my boot. She did that twice, as all the time I'm trying my best to convince her that she didn't need to come past the platform of the stand. Didn't want to have to shoot her. Back on the ground, she put on a display of the most raw fury that I have ever seen out of an animal. Huffing, snapping jaws, growling from way down deep, bouncing and pounding the ground with her front paws. Took her what felt like a lifetime, but she calmed down after about 20 minutes and started feeding. About a half hour later I was able to climb down and leave the scene. Been 25 years, but still gives me a rush to think about it. Ranks at the top as one of my wildest bear encounters.

Then there's the pack of coyotes that surrounded me when I was walking out of the bush at dusk making distress pup calls...oops, my bad.
I swear i ran across that clan a little over 3 years ago hunting with Burnt Lake outfitters just south of Ft.Mac.in may.
in a tree over beaver, the same scenario, sow with trips and orange tag came out.feed and the cubs a playing.she was a good 6fter. and on her hinds was chewing on that beaver. finally one of the cubs strayed under my tree and keep pestering me. mamma 2x came and pushed it Back.
So the show starts with her coming back and agitated looking up at me. So what would any fool do but pour a full bottle of **** on her head.
Bad move , she went ape ****, swingin them paws across the ground and huffing and growling, coming back looking up . me out in the woods 4 miles from the road, guide in camp and xbow ,one shot basically as cocking on a small lock-on isn't, to practical. well to sum it up, it didn't come to a kill fest. they left about another 30 mins and i watched them leave out of site. about 10 or some Mins before ,i'm looking around and out of literally nowhere. shes under the tree looking up at me.no cubs just her. i think i ****es her off..
