Default Box sets for Muskrat

I heard the other day that some people will build a small box (big enough for a 110), then drill a hole through the ice and set the box over the hole with the trap for muskrats. Anyone ever do this? I thought it was a neat concept to get some under ice rats.

I have never heard of that method. Google search "Trapping Muskrat Push ups" and "Trapping Muskrat Huts". Those are two of the popular ways to catch rats in the winter. Have fun and stay safe!

As an experiment, I tried this same method using a 5 gallon pail.

A fella I know does this. If I remember right he makes them 8x8x16 inches. Put straw or old hay in them and covers them up. He says it works like a charm, people say that is a lot of work for a rat but we do it for weasels all the time. If it works why not.

The hole froze over before I could catch a rat.
