Bella Coola is a place to avoid if you don’t enjoy rubbing shoulders with bears.

Was up in Alaska in the 80's....at first your like runnnnn....but you get use to it and give them thier space...its thier kitchen and you don't want to end up poop....

Even had a few walk between us to claim thier spot....no arguments there

And even when you have the 44 629 strapped on your still feeling very small....

We used to run up Knights Inlet and fish the Klinaklini and hunt Blacktails in the fall. There were G-bears everywhere and it was not uncommon to have one on the opposite side of the river watching.

Once I had a coho on and when I tight lined it so that it didn’t head down the next set of rapids it was pulled up in the shallows down stream and as I was keeping tension on it and walking down to it a Grizz ran out and grabbed it. Up to then I didn’t know it was there. After a 100 foot run I clamped down on it and the main line broke at the rod pretty much ending the days fishing fr me.

I’ve had similar experiences fishing up the Homathko River at the head of Bute Inlet when I flew in there fishing a few times. It was funny that the trips I saw G-bears I never saw any Blacky’s and vide-versa.

And people wonder why fly fishermen are seen as the arrogant snobs of the fishing community

Nobody likes a grammar natzi.

They're (the grammar police) not happy over there with their constant need to correct spelling.

New Year's resolution: will not comment on spelling or grammar any more!

But back to the grizzly thread. Was fishing the Atnarko River (Bella Coola area)) years ago and waded across the tail of one pool and then bashed through the bush to get back to the bridge...alone. Next day with buddies fished the same area and watched a sow and her two one year olds come out of the bush exactly where I had gone into the day before. Never, ever fished that river again!

With all the rafts on the Atnarco, I think the grizzlies there are pretty used to fishermen. The ma with 2 cubs we met there just gave us a short little bluff charge and a snort to say 'MY RIVER', and continued on her way. BTW, Mr. F. - you let 'your' (instead of you're) slip by ....
