Default Who

Corb who?

You know, I bought a couple CD's when he first came out.

They were OK and I'm always up to support local talent.

When to Drumheller to see him and Ian Tyson in concert. Ian didn't show up. We listened to a couple songs and left and had a pizza.

Pizza was good.

No disrespect to Ian. I was only referring to Corb's latest little ditty about trying whiskey or gin.

You seem to have the inside track on the Teck mining operations. You say a lot has changed in the last 5 years but it certainly hasn't improved the cutthroat trout populations in the Fording river. Directly from the Tech resources monitoring project. Why the steep decline from 2017-2019?

"Since the previous snorkel count (2017), the adult count has decreased by 93% from 1,573 counted fish
to 104 counted fish. The 2019 count falls well below the range in the previous four survey counts
conducted in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017, which were 768 – 1,573 fish greater than 200 mm.
The 2019 median model population estimate was 327 fish greater than 200 mm and the three model
estimates ranged between 246 to 416 fish greater than 200 mm. The 2019 environmental conditions
(visibility and flow) and biological opinion were most consistent with the lowest of the three model
estimates for observer efficiencies (25% in 2013) and this would provide weight to the higher model
estimate of 416 Westslope Cutthroat Trout greater than 200 mm. Any of the three model estimates
represent steep declines of between 88% to 93% since 2017. If accurate, the magnitude of the decline is
highly concerning and cause for immediate action."

A 88% to 93% decline in fish populations doesn't look like things have changed for the better to me.

It’s all a matter of preference but I think the guy is a horrible singer. All of these people should really just keep their beliefs to themselves. An opinion of washed up folk singers like Neil young or Leo decraprio make me sick.

And here it comes... Why betting on coal is a long term lose situation. We should instead be building steel plants and using this tech. We have the gas and the carbon sequestering here in Alberta.

I'm kinda surprised to see these kinds of reactions to Corb. Regardless of how you feel about his music, it seems like he is just looking out for the ranchers, landowners and public land users (many of us on here) of SW Alberta, which is his neck of the woods. Sure it feels like a bit of NIMBYism, but to put him on the same level as Leo, Greta, etc. is way off base IMO.

He had the platform and reach to raise awareness about an issue that concerned him and was able to help enact some change.

It is tough to balance everyone's interests on this issue I think.

He's looking out for ranchers grazing leases? He's looking out for land owners? Why would he look down his nose and decide landowners here need his help because he can play a guitar? Really? Should I watch out for his land and reclaim it back to what it was? There are many local folk down here that have a much better grasp on reality than flakes similar to Corb.
He is the one who put himself on the same level as Leo and Greta.
Corb Lund is just another grandstander trying to use a touchy subject for personal gain.

I've been thinking along similar lines - We have so much going for us here. We have the infrastructure that has supported the O&G industry for so many years, we have the engineering expertise to design stuff, we know about how to leverage automation to improve productivity and quality etc.

Consider some of the supply chain issues that became apparent during the last year - like appliances, for instance.

It really doesn't take a lot of brain power to design the electronics for it. I'd hazard a guess that we have a few folks on this forum who could pull off the PCB and firmware design in a week or two. Okay, okay, realistically, we'd need a couple of months.

Now, stamp some metal pieces, drop a motor in there (we could likely make our own too) and boom - the return of the Canadian made washing machine. Granted, the margins would be a lot slimmer (and maybe the math will prove me wrong - maybe there will be no margin!) but we wouldn't be dependent on overseas goods as much as we are now, and we can be proud of that.

Just a thought.

Quick bump

Today at noon

Large moot of flyfishermen and other citizens converging at the Waldren monolithy thing to protest the Alberta Govts approach to east slope open face coal mining around the Oldman

Imma headed out there. Why?..... the U.P.C. (Ultraslimey Policy Changers) approach to energy policy and public policy consultation is .... well.... slimey.

I’m giving up prime stream time on a non windy day to speak up.

Join us boys.
