Default .204 Ruger Drop Chart 32gr. Vmax

Currently was messing around with the .204 and always have a issue with the drop chart not being accurate. I took 5 shots at 400 yards and then realized that the advertised velocity is probably wrong for my rifle and area. I lowered the velocity in the Ballistics calculator until it match my 400 yard results. To my to my pleasant surprise my height was dead on at 500 yards.

For the 400 yard shot used the reticle and held over 1 mil. This was supposed to be 14.4inches low. I was more like 16.5 so I changed the velocity to match and using the scopes turrets dialed in 2 mil up and my shot 5 rounds. The next group at 500 which although being way off on my wind call was very close in height.

All factory rifle and ammo.

I’m no expert but if you input your information and data this should give you a close idea of where you will be for your drop chart. If your bullet is lower or higher just simply adjust the velocity in the ballistics calculator to match your results and this should get you real close.👍

If you were testing that theory today you are either tough or crazy I thought about a coyote call for all of 5 seconds. Lol. Thanks for sharing the data, 204 a neat little round!

Stupid and Bord. Dressed up and walking 1000 yards everytime you want to setup, look at or retrieve a target, will warm you up.😅

Nice rig and good shooting, don't think you would have been bored enough to be out shooting in the 35km wind that we had yesterday here in Lloydminster, wow it was cold, -43 wind chill, colder than the mother in laws kiss

I've sighted in my 204 in at 100 yards. Currently 40gr Hornady sighted in at 2" high at 100 yards. I also sighted in some 32gr V-Max and they printed dead on at 100 yards. Both shoot a little over 1/2" at 100 yards. Both factory Hornady ammo.

I wonder how the 40grs would do at that distance?

At 400 yards and further, my 39 gr Blitzking load drops less, with less wind drift.

I like the 39 gr. Blitzkings in mine also.It shot the 32's and 40's well enough, but I settled on the Sierra's with 8208 XBR.

I am shooting a 20 Tactical, it loves R-10x with the Blitzking.

Ya I’m that stupid. I was hunting yotes at -35 with no windchill.🤪

I plan on trying some 40 vmax when I get a chance so I’ll let you know. Might do a vmax , Blitz, Nosler comparison in the future with all factory ammo.

I tried 3 boxes of 40 blitz and they didn’t like me but with the amazing reveiws I see with them, I will try them in the future again. I have had great success’s with vmax and Nosler bt. Was using the Nosler in my tikka but traded it for this Rem 700 and find the Nosler and blitz hard to get in our small town. Hornady are usually easy to find anywhere.

40 gr, V-Max work great for me with TAC powder....I have an inch more of drop and a inch more wind drift plus a little loss in energy (9 FP) but that means very little at 500 yards...Both my rifle love em...

Default Why

Can I ask why you sold your tikka and decided on a Rem? Not knocking your judgement just wondering

290 ft lbs of energy at 400 yards. I wouldn’t shoot a coyote with it...

My 39gr load has 500ftlbs at 400 yards, and it kills coyotes very well at that distance.

I agree that the 39-40gr is sufficient at that range. I do not like the 32gr though.

When I first decided to purchase a .204 it was between a Tikka and a Rem 700.
I was told get a Tikka if you want a great shooter outta the box. Get a Rem 700 if you want a ok shooter that you can customize into a amazing shooter. I recently was starting to lean towards reloading which I havnt done in the past so I thought I would trade the tikka for the Rem. Then slowly customize the Rem.
I recently decided I’m just not a reloader guy and will probably sell the Rem 700 and since I tried a heavy barrel tikka will Probly try a Tikka lite .204 next, since I like to walk and look for yotes.

All factory... That little horizontal dispersion might get pretty small on a still day. Hard to tell from the pictures, but curious what they measure CTC. Looks like maybe .25 MOA under good conditions. Think you may kick yourself if you end up selling.

Thanks for the offer, and it would be somewhat tempting, but I have some other stuff on my list first... And I reload, so I'm less concerned with how excellent factory ammo shoots.

How big were those groups center to center anyway?

Sry I missed this. I put the marks on the paper with a ruler so I would say 5.65 and 3.60 would be very close.

If you don't want to walk 1000 yards each time try using two Smartphones. One looking at the target on facetime or similar video chat and the other at the bench, same face to face meeting.

That is a genius idea but I have crappy cell service here. I’d also be scared I’d hit a device. How close does it have to be to the target, so you can make out the shots?

Set it on a mount off to the side at an angle. It is easy to setup by viewing what it is showing you on the other phone right while u are lining it up. . Depending on the phone 2 to 4 feet you should easily see the holes in the target. Can't help you with the poor cell service.

Default Chronograph

I would suggest picking up a Chrono. I had a Labradar and it was great but mine had some trouble with my 204R

If I may be so bold as to recommend a Magneto Speed. I owned one and it worked well on the 204R

I prefer the LAB but if you shoot alot of 204 the Magno is the better choice.

The issue with the Lab Radar is it is limited to 4000 FPS bullet speed. I talked to them about a model that wasn't, price would be over $8,000 so I decided to pass. If you are going to do a lot of 204 load development, a Chrony is cheap at 100 bucks for the base model, can be used while shooting groups and doesn't have the speed limit.

i think have close to 2 dozen coyotes with a .17 hmr inside 130 yards, none lost, had to trail a couple when i tried the 20 gr xtp load as they just poked holes but found them inside 100 yards(like trailing lung/heart shot deer), went back to the 17 gr tnt as the perfect acreage coyote/beaver load, most spun and down on the spot, the odd 30-40 yrd runner, the v-max was ideal for gophers(bit more explosive and frangible than the tnt, no ricochets whatsoever)

as for .204, i had tikka varmints and shot the factory federal 39 gr blitzking load when you could still get that ammo, shot 1" groups at 250 yards easy, and 2-3" groups at 500-520 yards, everything i shot with it died really well also

no way coyotes will walk from a .204 at 500 yards with 39/40 gr loads

i ran 250 yard zero on my .204's (1" high at 100 on my hmr for close to 150 yrd pbr)
