Default Elk Habits

I have been hunting a deep valley with a shallow river for Elk. My extensive hunting and cameras show the massive deep elk trails all over are simply Elk on the move from the AG fields above at night to wherever they bed for all the daylight hours. Strangely though every day I see Elk tracks over mine but can only remember seeing scat a few times.
Do they generally not crap while traveling?
It seems every Elk within walking distance of this valley will go down to the bottom (and maybe back up the North side somewhere) during daylight hours. I just can't find where they bed. They must munch during the day, it's a long time to just lay around but I find nearly zero browsing too.

Check out this 7x? I got a picture of. The heaviest bull that every lived (as far as I am concerned) A farmer I showed the picture too says he would be proud to finish a cow looking that wide and distinct.

I've given up on them for now and gone back to where I know Elk bed. 6+ days of hiking 20km/day with 5000+ feet of elevation change I have found one spot where a bull consistently lives but the river is too high to get into. I can't imagine the 5+km pack up the valley if I could get to him.

look 2 thirds up the north slope, my guess is there is some kind of a bench on that slope and they wont be far off that.

Default elk

A bull elk as chubby as your picture definitley will crap lots. If you are looking for elk poop it will be near their bedding area after they have chewed their cud all day while napping. Bulls putting on weight after the rut will be walking day and night and crapping everywhere along their trails.
