Medium cost rain gear
I am doing a sheep hunting the first couple of weeks of October to the south of Calgary. I want to get some good rain gear but my wife is balking at the cost of Kuiu Katana Storm shell set. Can anyone recommend a less expensive option but will be comparible in performance? I have done some day bear hunts with substandard gear and it is miserable and that is with a nice warm truck and house to go back to.

I would be looking into Helly Hansen gear, still not cheap but cheaper than Kuiu and Sitka. Obviously will give up some weight to save some money

Look away from the “hunting “ brands. They are generally overpriced. Lots of deals to be had online from outdoor gear companies.

Check out mountain equipment co-op. Just picked up so good stuff for 1/4 the price. And as above when it comes to rain gear the "hunting" brands are way over priced and not every thing has to be camo.

Outdoor Research, Helly Hansen. Or hold your nose and go with MEC.

Instead of MEC try Campers village. MEC is partnered with CPAWS.
Just suggesting.

Or you can get screwed by “hunting” gear companies. Not sure which is actually less hunter friendly.

Is this something you do or are planning on every year? Are you planning on be active in the rain or more hunkered? How far are you travelling, counting oz's?
Do you carry another shell for wind cutting or will this also be used for that?
You can get rain gear for cheap that will keep you dry in anytime of rain we get here but if you start hiking in it you'll end up just as wet.

I watch Camofire, the Last Hunt and other discount sites for last years stuff. I picked up some Browning RainSlayer pants and jackets for a good price.

Companies like the North face, arcteryx and a couple others also sell refurbished gear which are some killer deals.

That's interesting, where do they sell this? Direct from their sites?
