Man I HATE that. Just like all the hunters who applied in my areas last year. Bumped me right out of my mule and moose draw for another year. Who do these people think they are?......
Some of you are squealing like piglets cut off from chop trough. Gunsliniger has it figured out.

Gunslinger does have it figured out 5, 10, 15K whats it going to cost to purchase one of these tags. Residents will be the last ones given access unless they can afford the price.........and since its a pilot program whats to stop it from expanding to all privately held land?

Sheephunter,
With up to 25% of all available permits in a WMU going to landowners as vouchers how is this not paid hunting?

From previous post:
"Hi Rusty, the proposed pilot you are referring to is still being flushed out, so many of the details you are inquiring about are yet to be determined."
I believe he meant "fleashed out" instead of "flushed out" but then again "flushed" may be a better word.
There are more than one way to skin a cat as the saying goes. No dout there needs to be some changes in Alberta to: 1. promote the protection of wildlife and fish habitat on "private lands" (and public lands heald under agricultural dispositions)
and 2. access to these lands for ALBERTA RESIDENT HUNTERS AND ANGLERS (sorry for shouting).
The above proposal is one way (to skin this cat) but I'm not sure it is the best. Seems to me there may be some pitfalls to it that may be hard to reverse once they are in motion.
Knowing what I do know about the ACA (and the original intent of the "Buck For Wildlife Fund") I'm not sure why the ACA is even involved in this thing???

Not sucking me into this one longdraw...enough experts here already....nice try though. Just passing along a fact I read in the fact sheet...nothing more.
I'll reserve my thoughts for when the facts come out but man.....getting all wound up on misinformation and speculation is fun though...oh wait...it's not that's why I'm waiting for the facts!

Sheep,
You are waiting for the facts about the fact sheet?
Please clarify.

No I'm waiting for facts surrounding the entire pilot project...I think the fact sheet was pretty clear...everything else at this point however is speculation...I hope that clears things up for you.

I'm not doing any speculating.
All the facts that I have gathered are from the fact sheet that you provided the link to.
The up to 25% of the available permits is on the fact sheet and the way I see it it will reduce resident opportunity by 25% in the wmu's where this is a pilot project. The math is simple.

Hey, dont be to quick on that 25% thing..
Like I said they count the deer in thos 2 ranches.. If they start counting deer in those areas, the tag#'s will rise.
Also that 25% figgure depends on how much habitat each ranch has as compared to the rest of the WMU.
Lots of questions here guys, and they should be asked.. But the Gov doesnt have the answers yet...

Jamie,
It is up to 25%, what I got off the fact sheet and said all along. Even if they allocate more tags in these WMU's, the number of vouchers will increase proportinately as well.

Lurch
If we assume the idea goes ahead as wrote, there will be more tags available for regular Albertan hunters than there was available this year.. And on top of that you will have access to more land than what you did this year.. All at a low low price of what ever you paid for a tag this year.
I also happen to believe.. And I have no proof of this, but I think access on the Big ranches will be comparable to what the guides have. Get your ducks in line, phone early, be flexible with your dates..
In such a high demand area, you can assume it will be like booking a golf Tee time.
With the spot light directly on these 2 ranches, you can expect them to play more than fair if they want this program to continue.
Be positive people.. Be positive

I'm not willing to trade increased tags/access for paid hunting. Not now, not ever.
From what I can gather there isn't much "waiting for the facts" left to be done here, this pilot project is a done deal except for some minor details.
Thank goodness we have a few people here that are willing to "squeal like piglets cut off from the chop trough", it's a hell of a lot better than being sheep blindly following the sheperd toward their demise, or at least, losing their comfy wool.

The number 1 complaint SRD gets is the lack of access for hunting in the south. They attempt to do something to help out and a whole lot of you would have them drawn and quartered before they get the chance to finish it. At least let them get the final details worked out and then if you are unhappy take them to task.

And you've done that here or through your memebership in the AFGA? Perhaps write a letter?

That may be the spin on it, but I don't believe for a second that this was an SRD initiative to "improve access".
I don't like the basic principles involved reagrding paying for access/wildlife, and yes, I will voice my concerns over that. It's a hell of a lot easier to nip something in the bud than chop down a tree.
The details left to work out are just that, details.

How could anyone have done so? This is far from public knowledge. If you weren't a member of this board, and if Lurch hadn't posted on the issue, how would anyone know what's being done? From what I've read hear, even those that will be directly affected are largely unaware of it.
