Scope question: older Vari-X III or new Zeiss Terra
Hi All,
I am looking at a scope for one of my rifles, going to buy a used one. Older Vari-X III 2.5-8x36 or a Zeiss Terra 2-7x32, both in amazing condition. Looking for real life experience with both please and am not looking at any other make/model/power,
Thanks in advance.

I have never owned the Zeiss Terra but I am told they are an entry level scope.
One thing I can say for sure is that I have owned a VXIII 6.5x20x50 since 1994 IIRC, and it has only been mounted on 2 rifles ........a 7mmSTW for one year and a 338 Win for the rest of its life, and it has never ever let me down. And I shoot a lot. The VXIII would be my choice without a doubt......JMO

Definitely the Leupold. Better glass, better inards and MUCH better warranty (there are a lot of limiting words when your read a Zeiss warranty) than the Chinese made Terra. I am surprised Zeiss will put their name on these.
If it was a Conquest I would say it was a even toss up, though Leupold still has the better warranty service. Zeiss has now extended their warranty to lifetime, and it is transferrable, but there is no repair depot in Canada.

I am still surprised that Zeiss put their name on the Terra.

Agreed.
I bought a terra shortly after they were released. They were supposed to be a replacement for the conquest in the $500 price range. Just to compare, I borrowed an older conquest and compared it to my new terra. The difference was unreal...the terra was garbage. Returned it the next day.

The two scopes are not part of the same market, one is a good mid level scope the other is a decent entry level scope. The conquest is in the same market as the vxIII not he terra

The Vari-X-III 2.5-8 is one of my all time favorite scopes
