Default Transiting Amsterdam Airport with Firearm

I am working on travel arrangements. Has anyone been through Amsterdam airport recently traveling to South Africa with a firearm? Any tips to avoid hassles?
I am traveling from Calgary and KLM has the shortest layover compared to flights through Frankfurt.
thanks

You need your Canadian export permit first. Then apply for your Netherlands transit permit. I made multiple copies and always had one in a plastic cover taped to the outside of my gun case. No problems other than at that time, they would only email you the transit permit about 3 days before your trip departure.

Default Make sure your paper work is perfect.

Make sure that all your luggage including your gun and ammo is checked all the way through to South Africa. You don’t want them pulling it until your in South Africa.
Even though I did it right my gun case lost traction on the conveyor belt loading onto the plane in Amsterdam and didn’t show up to South Africa for three more days.
If it is a smooth gun case I suggest a little grip tape to help it along.

Default Guns to South Africa

I now advice people to Avoid Amsterdam(1) and British Air now (2)
Amsterdam can be a problem depending who moves or checks luggage containing a firearm. And this last year British Air wants a special permit to even handle a firearm in Heathrow Airport and on the Airline, permits are possible but some of the conditions are strange, i.e.: you don't call in prior to arrival at the stated time, the permit is void.... If for some reason your flights are delayed expect problems...
SO I just suggest flying other routes and other gun friendly airlines.....
Much more relaxing and fun when you have piece of mind.......
Also have your guns export/import permits for Canada and the RSA Police permits prearranged plenty early prior to your trip an things go really smooth, both going an returning.

sst

Flew with KLM last April to South Africa, Start well in advance with transit permits etc. I had no problems in or out. As well you have to let KLM know that you are flying with firearms.

I went through Frankfurt and it was smooth. It magically showed up in Kazakhstan.
