Default Lake Wabamun

Hello.....I haven't been on Wabamun since the water was hard. Heading out Sunday morning and taking my neighbours 8 yr old boy out. He's pumped! How has the fishing been for walleye? Jig and a minnow still do the trick?
Thanks

Wow, we caught over 70 Walleye in 3 hours. The kid with me did about 25 on his own. What a smile on his face. We also caught a few pike and they were pretty slim. I know there is concern while this fishery adjusts to another apex predator that is doing so well. But for a kid learning to fish within an hour of Edmonton????? Pretty damn good in that kids eyes. Now if we can only eat a couple of them

Thats good you found a good spot.
I ran out of minnows by 9:30 am .
I was hooking up before the hook even got to the bottom.
Hopefully in a few years they will be much bigger .
I almost thing there are more walleye in this lake than Pigeon.

I fished it 2 Friday’s ago. 2 of us went through 2 tubs of minnows in a few hours. Maybe 50 fish. Most were under 16” which was good to see. Once the whitefish population can claw back from the oil spill there will be more baitfish in be lake. Time can only tell when the lake will be healthy for all the species again. Great Lake, close to Edmonton.

Glad you guys had a great day, always good to see kids smiling while fishing

Got to love it when the kids are hauling them in. I’d much rather watch the kids doing it. I’d be happy to just try to control the chaos.

That’s awesome when the kids have fun like that. I’m heading to Wab on Saturday with my two grand children. What General area do I need to be in to run into large numbers ? This will be the first time the boys will fish from the boat. Hopefully we have good luck

I went straight out from the Village of Wabamun boat launch. There is a bend in the shore from East to West and I parked there in 12 ft of water jut off the reeds. Just left jigs tipped with minnows off the bottom. Very finicky though and the little ones will miss a lot of strikes likely. So bring lots of minnows.
