The action already has a set of bases on it, maybe you could find a set of
Z rings maybe? This rig is going to make to the trip to 1K so standard rings and bases won't cut it...!
Hopefully we can get a rail for the '98 without too much problem

I have three 98s that go out to 1000. Std bases and z rings with 20moa inserts dost the job well. Have had a check.of a time finding the z ring inserts the last few years...I.can coordinate with TC if needed

That would be great if we could make it work!

I will dig into my stuff tomorrow. I think I have a set of 30mm Burris rings that may work? I will have a look and shoot you a PM. If I don't have something that works, pick something out and I will cover it Cat.

Obsessed, if your rings will work, I will cover shipping and a coffee for you! I suspect my sets aren't up to it.

Sounds great! I think it will be easier too find a set of Z rings than a 20MOA rail for a Santa Barbara action, but I may be wrong!

Timney trigger trigger is on, just waiting on the rail now, then I'll inlet the stock and it's off to FPS with the rifle so he can plumb in the barrel !

too Cold and nasty to shoot today, so I hibernated in the garage and started the inletting of the action.
Things are progressing nicely, and I was able to find a trigger guard that will work ( with a few mods! LOL)but I have to set it a bit deeper yet.
The action itself is danged near half way, which is what they should be - I hate seeing a barrel sticking three quarters of its diameter out of a barrel channel .
Pretty happy with the way it is progressing so far! !

I was going to quit for the evening but that trigger guard was bothering me, so I finished inletting it so it fits flush!

Here's the new barrel next to the bed- the bed is only 2mm wider than the barrel so that will work perfectly!
From my measurements though , the action is still 2mm higher than its center, so I will address that tomorrow.

Latest update

This rifle is being put together for new and junior shooters to use at our range in Ft. McMurray where we have ranges out to 1,000 meters
Anybody who wishes to help out with other parts of the build or even powder and bullets , etc, just jump in !

1:The assembly labor for the barreled is graciously being donated and performed by fps plus

2:The action is from a '98 Parker Hale Safari .

3:Barrel is a Benchmark 30" in 6mmBR donated by Rugerfan
I originally was going to do it with a spare 308 barrel but Rugerfan wanted to help out with it as well and who can argue with a Benchmark barrel donation!

4: a 20 MOA rail will be donated by Dick284 and myself.

5:Stock is a CIL 950T with fully adjustable butt plate and elevating cheek riser.

6: brass for the 6mmBR is from my stash
That is what I have so far, the build will start in the new year, and will give us something to look forward to inn the Spring!!

7: Tasco 16X target scope donated by Duceman

8: Timney trigger money was donated by Bearden300
9: Twisted Canuck has committed to a set of 1" rings when the time is right.

On a side note, I went to a 'hunting' store here in Santa Cruz, supposedly the one that actually has hunting gear. I have about 1000x the ammunition and 25 x the firearms they have. Remington .22 LR Thunderbolt is about $25 USD per 100....

So no complaining about components in Canada people!

Update on the build . I have received the parts and will get a chance in approx 2 weeks to put it together. The reamer I have has a shorter throat than the dummy Cat supplied so once the chamber is cut a separate throating reamer will used to cut the throat for the depth of the dummy provided .

Do you need custom slings for any of the donated rifles?

Thanks but this rifle is going to be a single shot target rifle, and much to heavy and cumbersome for anything else but the range.

Update again :
Bolt is trued and lapped to receiver , all the necessary measurements for headspace are made. Hopefully if plans work out it will be chambered and fitted to the barrel by the end of the week .
