Default 30 Gibbs

Anyone have any experience with this caliber. I have a chance to pick one up but from what I read it’s a pain to make brass. The seller says fire 150gr factory 30-06 but everything I find says that’s a bad idea

You will want to seat the bullet tight in the land to fireform, pretty easy to do from 30.06 brass, Just look up 30 Gibbs, another good wildcat rd.

A while back I posted a comparison I did between the 30-06!, 30-06 ackley improved ,and 30 Gibbs.

One can preform cases with pistol powder and a filler or seat a bullet tightly into the lands and fireform

On a Ruger 77 30-06!that I rechambered the Gibbs was 200fps faster than the std 30-06

I have a 25-06 in a Gibbs Mashburn that is quite a bit more work to make brass, necking down 270 or 30-06 brass and then fireform, pretty potent rd for a 25, using 90-120 gr. bullet's. All brass was fireformed using Red Dot powder.

I have a buddy that just built a 25 Gibbs. It’s not that much slower than my 257 wby.

Only draw back is brass prep. I have a 6.5 Sherman which is similar and based on the 270 Win. Neck down and create a doughnut on the neck for a false shoulder. Some pistol powder and cream of wheat to fire form. The design does perform. My Sherman will drive a 140 Berger at 3339 fps out of a 28" Hart.

I'm very impressed with the numbers from mine, running even with 300 win velocity with a 200gr. That is out of a 30" barrel though. For brass prep I had a whidden hydraulic form due made, couple wacks with a hammer and you've got a 90% formed case. Easier than messing with a false shoulder or cream of wheat.

Default 30 gibbs

I have the 270 , 30 & 8mm Gibbs. Fire formnig 30 06 brass is fairly easy. All I do is put 5 gr. of red dot and fill the casing with cornmeal with a touch of lube
on the top to keep everything in the case. This bumps the shoulder where it needs to be. I then check over all length and trim if necessary. I then load a full load the next time around and start shooting. I got great numbers from all the Gibbs cals.

That is correct.

I make my 30 Gibbs and 338 Gibbs brass from 35 Whelen brass. And I make my 270 Gibbs brass from 30-06.
