Default 7.3l gas V8

Anyone here running this engine. What are your thoughts compared with the latest Ford diesel offering.

The guys I know that have them say they drink fuel like crazy. I went with a 6.2L gas and the 10 spd in my 21 f350 srw short box and it’s been fantastic for what I use it for.

The 6.2 is the most reliable engine that Ford has made in decades. I don't know if there is a large enough difference between the 6.2 and the 7.3 in terms of performance to warrant the increased price and walking away from the durability.

Does ford still make the 6.2? I thought they got rid of it and had the 6.8 only a v8 not a v10.

I had 7.3 in f350 (96). Fuel economy terrible. I could literally watch the fuel gauge go down, pushing 70mph. Average 9-10mpg. Decent torque for short pulls.

The 7.3 in 96 was a diesel engine not a the new gas 7.3 entirely different. If you have a buddy looking your probably better off at a ford truck forum then AO based solely on the number of people there that are looking for info or have that engine. Here is literally a 7.3 and 6.8 forum. There’s another for the 6.2.

I’ve had one about two years now. Average sits right around 17 L/100km between highway driving and running around backroads at home. I’m not the most economical driver at most times though. Plenty of power when pulling my Jeep around on the trailer.
