That is so terrible. I fell so bad for the children. My only real fear of dying is not being around to care for my wife or watch my children grow up.

Sorry for your loss Ken.

Yes he did, I just about went with him to pick it up but work got in the way. One of those days that you actually thankful you had to go to work instead of spending it with a good friend.

Dave and I were talking about that too. I had a Piper lined up to buy a couple years ago, was going to get my license in my own plane.
Got the boat instead.

Condolences to the families and friends. You just never know sometimes. Brutal life change for the kids, hope they have some stand up family to step in and help them through this.

Was not the best day to fly in mountainous regions of BC, more likely the worst day.
Rain, wind, fog.
My guess was that their flight plan was to follow the Fraser River to Spences Bridge and then to Kamloops.
The problem with canyon flying is that when you are suddenly socked in, you have no options. It takes a tricky maneuver to reverse direction. You cannot simply turn around and if your route is middle of the canyon it is impossible for novice flyer.
I'm thinking that he tried to turn around but ran out of room and "collided with terrain."
TSB investigates.
The poor children, what a tragedy for them.

I made the wrong assumption of location of flight path. It turns out that they were flying a route following the Coq and went off radar at 5:30PM. Hard to see mountains in the dark. No traffic on the Coq-hwy to show the way.

The pain lingers for years.

Over twenty years ago a local pilot I knew crashed his plane. He was killed along with his son and his son's girlfriend.

I talked to his widow just a few days ago. I simply can not look at her without remembering that sad day. And we were not close friends, only acquaintances.

For her it has to be ten times worse.

Hugs big guy. I know your heart is breaking.
