Default Return to yellowknife

Evacuation order lifted today at 11:00. Cabin Radio site has the news. Can't imagine the relief as people return.

Let's hope that what they left is what they find on return.

On the Fort McMurray fire, a number of houses had been broken into and TV's , tools and other valuables were stolen.

A Fire Crew was caught with a truck full of TV's, and when asked why they broke in and stole from the houses they were to protect, the answer was that the homes were going to burn anyway.

Trouble was, a number of those houses did not burn, and the home owners returned to alot fewer possessions when they returned.

This information came from a Wild Land Crew Chief who had to deal with the RCMP on the discovery of the stolen TVs in the truck, and crew members who had been caught.

Their bodies should still be hanging at the entrance to Ft Mac

Can we expect charges or will this be swept under the carpet ? Certainly deserves to be on the evening news.

Then they wonder why people won't evacuate.

In my observations emergency personnel tend to think of an evacuation the same way that contractors regard a shutdown... a certain amount of theft is simply expected. Occasionally they get a little too enthusiastic and it makes the news, rarely does it ever result in any actual repercussions, likely because everyone involved knows the drill.
