Default BBQ or Smoker

I need help deciding which to buy: A Traeger pellet smoker or a Weber Genesis BBQ.

I know if I get a smoker, I won't be able to get grill marks on my steaks...but aside from that, can I cook burgers, chicken etc just as well on a traeger? Seems like Traeger is the way to go because anything I can cook on a BBQ I can cook on a traeger plus I get the added benefit of being able to smoke brisket and full birds and such?

Thanks for the help.

A Traeger will leave grill marks even more-so if you buy cast iron grills for it. I would choose any pellet grill over any gas grill forever. If having grill marks is that important look at a grill that gets hotter like a GMG, or Louisiana Grill in the same price point. The Traeger Timberline will exceed 500f but is getting rather pricey.

Also, once you learn to reverse sear a steak you won't care about the grill marks nearly as much.

I went with the Traeger and so far it holds temp in -25 and leaves grill marks, ideally tho I like having both, so I’ll keep my small grill for quick grilling!

If you're near Airdrie then I would recommend the Grilla Grills Silverbac. Airdrie Canvas sells them. They go for about $1500, all the important stuff is stainless and it's double walled. Use mine year round and am very happy with it. It does not have wi-fi, but can be added on. It always seems to hold the temp near perfect.

I’ve been on the fence what to get as well. But I am going to go with a Napoleon BBQ and a GMG pellet smoker. I like the reliability of the bbq and quick cooks in when needed and in winter. I am excited to try out these pellet smokers though. Lots of guys making some pretty awesome looking meals!

Kamado ++

A side benefit is you can theoretically use it to bake bread in as well. Haven't tried that yet but it's on the project list for next summer.
