I'm betting this goes the same as the DC-10 scenario. Couple of crashes related to a faulty baggage door design , gave it a bad reputation that no amount of fixing could overcome. Most ended up being converted to freighters.

I was happy to hear Canada isn’t blindly following the FAA again.

Just a logical safety suggestion. How about taking out all the seats and use them as freighters for 1 year. If none fall out of the air then consider them to carry passengers.
