Default Anyone know what this is?

Got it in the estate. Not sure what it is but on the side it says "Lauder co 1916"

Looks like an old waterproof match container,back in the 40s'-50's,some of them would fit up the butt end of the stock on a 303 british rifle.

I would have to go with a whistle,, Maybe some sort of military tool,, very interesting though,, can't wait to find out what it really is.... (circ 1940's dog training whistle)
The match box theory is out because there would be no room to take out the matches,, if you notice the angle at which the matches would have to come out of the opening..

Yah id have to say some sort of whistle, give it a blow and see what happens.

Thanks for the guesses guys. First for the whistle. No it is not...doesn't make a sound. As for the waterproof match container I don't think so because it has no seals or anything. No way they would stay dry and the ones that fit in the 303 i don't *think* had chains on them.

The thing I wonder about is you see in the last picture..inside that angel is a little mirror??
