Default Moving - UHaul or ?

Looking at renting a large UHaul for a one way trip. Is there alternatives I should be looking at?

Thanks

I’ve rented uhaul before. Always been super easy to get a truck and fairly affordable considering. The 26ft truck is big and holds a lot. Easy to drive!

Book online and force them to honor the price. The difference was shocking.

Penske? Never dealt with them, but it has been a long time since moving with a rental van has been an option

Enterprise can be pretty good. They seem to care less about returning to the same place you got it from.

Default Penske

Look into them.

Far better than uhaul

If you can make the trip work with you will be happier.

Last time I tried to rent from U-Haul they told me that they could not guarantee that they would have a truck in my location on the date that I wanted it and that if not I would have to go and get it from another location including possibly to another city. I ended up renting from Driving Force. I did have to return the truck to the original location but even with the added fuel and my added expenses it was still cheaper than a one way rental fron U-Haul.

UHaul trucks and trailer are notorious for being very badly maintained. I could care less about an odd light not working, but brakes etc I consider pretty important. If you rent from them make darn sure you check the truck over real close and don't let them give you a beater because they charge the same price as for the new ones. Personally, if I had any other option, I would take it.

Tried. They will only allow return to the same location. I'm unable to accommodate that.

I agree. U-Haul maintenance and safety inspections of their equipment sucks big time. Have an accident with their equipment where it is the fault of the equipment, they will go to no end to discredit you and then try to claim the loss of the equipment back on you. Speaking from experience.

Last time we moved we used Big Steel Box (similar to PODS). It was great. You pay by the month, so we loaded stuff at our convenience, called them when it was ready to go, and they stored it in their yard until I called them for drop off at our new place. They dropped it off, we unloaded it when it was convenient, and called them to take it away.

I would 100% go with a Big Steel Box/PODS style system for any move in the future. They will haul it across the country for you as well. We were moving local, so that part wasn't much of a factor for us.

I think uhaul is a good option if you're doing it yourself. In my experience, they're typically cheaper than the other options. Outside of that, your only choice is to hire a mover, which obviously gets more expensive. As far as other things to think about, this article from 3 Movers helped me while I was making the decision as to which company to use (and other things I hadn't considered like renting a hand truck).
