Default Toasted Elk

Boy, talk about an absolutely disappointing season for the former Eskimos. The last few games were painful to watch. There's gotta be some big changes coming down the pipe.

Couldn’t clue in for the longest time what the heck the thread is about, lol. Just came back from elk hinting and kept reading the first three posts and thinking I don’t get it. Lol.

This is why we need a sports "super thread"

I feel sorry for the players and whatever fans they have left but not for the organization. They changed the name and now karma is gonna get them. And judging by the extremely poor attendance at Commonwealth the fans appear to not like the change either. The writing is on the wall for the future of the team.

Default Elks are toast

I have had season tickets for the Esks/Elks for over 30 of the past 40 years. They have finally beaten me into submission and I am waving the white flag and will not be renewing my tickets next year.
The classless treatment of Dwayne Mandrusiak after 49 years, combined with the crappy performance on the field has driven me away for good. I don't know what the team home record is for the past 10 years, but I would be surprised if it is over 50 percent....and don't get me started on the half time show. At least my daughter will enjoy the Hansen brothers Friday night, but some of the noise making garage bands they have used are terrible.

Whenever the Riders and Esky's met in a semi , final , or Grey Cup , ALL Rider fans new it was going to be a battle...football was good !
Such a proud franchise with exceptional players thru the years.
The Elks.. ?? The de-nutting of a great team. Pitiful.

The Elks were founded in 1949 as the Edmonton Eskimos and have won the Grey Cup championship fourteen times (including a three-peat between 1954 and 1956 and an unmatched five consecutive wins between 1978 and 1982), most recently in 2015. << Awesome and i'm a Rider Fan.

I used to worship the CFL. The Bombers were my favorite team. Then came cable tv and the NFL.
Haven't watched the Children's Football League since.

I was never a real sports fan, but I did really appreciate the achievements of the Esks and Oil in the 80's.

Sad to see where they're at now. Hope they can rebuild.

I personally think it is going to be a huge mistake to dump Trevor Harris. In my opinion he is still a good QB with some gas left in the tank. I watch nearly every game every year in the CFL. //S//

Here's the REAL problem with HARRIS. He has chosen not to get vaxxed. He cannot board a plane to go play down east. Most of the EE games will require flying. The EE have no choice but to bench him.

It is my opinion that he should not lose his job and career over him exercising his freedom of choice over his own body. This seems very wrong to me. It is just my opinion and yes I am entitled to it just like anyone and everyone else. Please don't cancel me.

What would you propose as a solution?

I do not have one. I'm not paid to come up w/ one either. That is not what I'm paid for as it is not my vocation.

I walked away from the sports world when Gretzky left, that was it for me, I seen my loyalty to any team(s)
after that easily being betrayed..was like treason for me watching him with the Kings, lol.

This! Totally the same as my take. I actually stopped watching NHL because of that trade. Money/greed ruined the game for me. Still don’t watch. We had the best team in the world and for multiple years, but GREED destroyed the perfect team.

Those comments almost need to be followed up with a clip of that drop he made late in the game last night.

Whew, and here I thought I was the only one!

I'll still watch some of the playoff games and finals... I had a lot more fun helping out with the local kids' leagues, though.

Looks like the fans aren't coming out anymore. Was there 22,000 at the game yesterday? Pretty sad for a Friday night game with awesome weather. On TV it looked like one of the emptiest home games ever. My family had season tickets for 25+ years during the hay days of the late 70's into the 80's and up until the '04 season. After attending 100's of home games I became somewhat decent at estimating attendance just by scanning the stadium. Back in those days it was common to have ~40,000 per game. I'm not sure how much longer a team can remain financially viable without more fans in attendance. Corporate sponsorships can only go so far. But on a positive note the team did play a smidgen better last night even though the result was a loss.
