It's not called "Deadmonton" for nothing. Looking to be the murder capital of canada again for 2011!

Default yes...but...

Mayor Mandel got Edmonton a brand new art museum!! And he's working on getting Edmonton a new arena as well. AND...maybe next winter the snow plows will keep the snow off the streets (if it doesn't snow that much). So pay no heed to the crime ridden streets, that really isn't the governments department anyway.

This is what happens when you elect a buttercup to run things.

Blame the city all you want but in the big picture is that the justice system is failing us all everyday...

When murder in Canada gets you 5-10 we have problems..

Of course it is, but it is the same in other Canadian cities, yet Edmonton has been the murder capitol more than most other cities.

Okay lets just look at who is this topic about, if the ones being murdered are the drug or gang guys, is this not a "well" lets just say weed out these people.

I would be more worried about worst break and enter, or rapist or countless others.

Maybe a "short drop and a sudden stop" set back up in Churchill Square would be a good direction. Make it public to drive the point home.

Edmonton is a city with 90% blue collar work force, more money, more drugs and the things that come along with the 2..

Yah it's pretty much dirtbags and gangbangers killing each other, thats a good thing, as far as I'm concerened the murder rate needs to be higher. Unfortunately once in a while an innocent person gets caught in the crossfire

Ya that murder rate is high for Canada but by American Standards it is low. Be glad you live in such a wonderful country as Canada. I have lived in multiple cities where the murder rate is close to 1 a day.

The justice system has turned into another industry. It has nothing to do with justice or law and order anymore. The real headcases seem to be on some sort of catch and release program.

I think that the courts don't want to completly eradicate crime, whether it is real or intentional, that is definately the result. The whole spectrum of government employees, social workers, lawyers, prison guards ect. are utilized after these social misfits beat their kids or deal their dope and generaly spread misery. All at the taxpayers expense of course.

You can see why some cops get frustrated and either quit or go with the flow.

most of the murders are drug and gang related it's not innocent people getting killed, as far as I am concerned they can drop all the druggies and gang members off in a fenced compound helicopter in crates of drugs and guns the the last one out gets to live, problem solved

A lot of trash moves in and out of Edmonton.

Garbage that can't get a job anywhere else thinks Edmonton or Ft. McMurray will be their goldmine.

Recently B.C. has been cleaning out their jails and giving those nice ex-cons a one way ticket to Edmonton.

As for our Somali brethern, they have come to Edmonton and have yet to discover you don't set up your crime industry in someone else's backyard.

Add a shyster mayor, a dimwit city council, and a former RCMP yes boy as the police chief, and you have all the ingredients for a real hole of a city.

Anybody that buys pot, cocaine, extasy or the like from these people has a hand in the murders they commit, including innocent passerby such as Jane Creba in Toronto.

Default Wheels of Justice

The system doesn't want to conform crimminals.
How else to fill city coffers to pay all the cost overruns on construction and maintenance, not to mention financial support for the law enforcement community.
They make an example of a few if the media catches the story and to make a half a$%^d attempt an convincing us that the system works.
Get caught, go to court ,a fine if your lucky and back out to do it again to keep donations to the fund rolling in.
We need to have a way to force politicians to do as their constitiuants wish so we can have the legal system changed by a politician with a backbone.

I walk a few blocks on Jasper Ave to the Telus Plaza bus terminal every friday (around midnight), as well as saturday and sunday. I have for the past three months, and I have never had a problem. Who knows, maybe I am just a lucky one.
