Default performance enhancing drugs

Curious as to what the rest of you think about police allowed to use performance enhancing drugs IE: steroids etc?
As a heavy truck operator in the oil patch I was subject to random testing , Reason was we could be dangerous to the public
Now how about police , should they not be tested for or actually forbidden to use these as they may affect reason or common sense? some of these brutes are huge in an unusual way ! steroid rage as it were.
I say No way allow it , TEST THEM.!

First of all they don't allow it. Second, standard drug tests do not test for the metabolites associated with suspected steroid misuse. If you have a job that conducts random urine tests I can almost guarantee they do not test for steroid use.

They do not test for performance enhancing drugs in work place screenings.

They test for substances that impair your abilities to function safely while on the job. You know like opium, marajuana, meth, alcohol.

I think the contrary can be said for performance enhancing drugs, if it made you less likely to need breaks, and resulted in you being better at your job, I'd wager some employers might actually endorse the use, except for the backside side effects to ones health.

But let's not let the facts get in the way of a good cop bash shall we.

That they don,t allow it is very questionable , I know they wont admit to it, they will deny it, and I find it odd that some of these officers get so large? You can only pump so much iron ! There are many officers charged with rediculous non allowed infractions these last years , How would this not be different?
I still say they should be checked regardless, because of the duty to serve and protect and not be influenced by artificial means , same as they rest of the population .Plus the fact they carry a weapon !and have unlimited leeway !

I don't see a lot of overly muscled police, I can't imagine the original intent of the thread is much beyond the compulsive & cliche cop bashing that some people veer towards for whatever reasons (usually self-initiated) . The most muscled emergency services personnel that I've seen tend to be firefighters, as they have the downtime between call-outs and the station gym for when their equipment maintenance chores are done. I used to work for a company that was contracted for the CFD facility maintenance so I would be through various halls regularly. None of them were 'roid huge, just super lean. I will allow for one super-hero sized firefighter that I saw in High River post-flood 2013, the dude was 6'5 ish & massive but was also from BC, Burnaby if I recall correctly.

I'm all for our police being very fit, the tactical lads in particular. There are lots of supplements out these days that can help a person along without them resorting to banned substances. I won't suggest that it never happens, but it certainly won't be common.

'Unlimited leeway"? Give me a break. The intent of the thread is clear, someone doesn't like the po-po, but to call for testing of every member of every department is completely ludicrous. Do you really think there is an epidemic of juiced officers, or is it just that your brain has an epidemic of cop-hate?

Default Question?

Are steriods and HGH illegal? If so then an officer using them is breaking the law. If not then it is a personal choice.
If they are breaking the law then they should receive the punishment there deparments issue for any other infractions (like impaired driving).
If not then its no ones business but there own.

Sorry caber, you're off on this one. PED use in urban law enforcement is at an almost epidemic level. I know this from talking to senior officers, many of whom agree that there should be a much higher rate of testing. And all said budget is the reason it won't happen. In fact, they can order testing but it requires a full on psychotic episode before it will be approved. Largely, so long as the officer involved didn't kill anyone, it won't happen. And even if they did, it probably won't happen, so as to avoid that can of worms. The top brass view it much as the military does, a "survival tactic" ...while ignoring the obvious long term mental and physical downside. IMO PED use has certainly contributed to the rise of PTSD. But without test data, it's impossible to confirm or deny.

I have a real good (professional) idea of what is achievable without juice, and I agree with parfleche, there are more than a few cops that exceed it. Not a majority, but enough to be a cause of concern.

Steroid and hgh use and possession are legal in Canada but it isn't legal to sell them.

Possession, sure. Trafficking, no. Use: against dept policy.

Good luck explaining how you came into possession of something without trafficking.

I have to agree with Caber on the intent of this thread. I'm know fan of unaccountable Leo's, but, this thread is bs.
