Where Does The Money Go?
Since 1995, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development has offered these special permits, in partnership with Alberta conservation organizations. Funds raised from both the sale of the auction and raffle permits are managed under a segregated fund. Each year, applicants (individuals or organizations) apply to this fund for financial assistance for their conservation projects. Categories include wildlife management, habitat improvement or conservation education. A Program Advisory Committee (PAC), comprised of representatives from various conservation organizations within Alberta meets to review, rank and allocate funding. Since the introduction of these permits, nearly $5 million dollars has been raised and re-invested in Alberta for wildlife, habitat and education programs.

For those of you with questions it would be best to call one of the above listed numbers. I'd probably start with HFT (Hunting For Tomorrow) as that is where this information came from.

This might be a dumb question, but I have to ask. Is this sheep permit basically an "add-on" to your general trophy sheep tag or is it a special license on it's own? I guess what I am asking is: do you have to be eligible to buy a general trophy sheep license to use the minister's tag if you are lucky enough to win? Or, if it is a special license, does the "one year sit out rule" apply to the tag minister's tag if you harvested a ram last season?
Edit: OOPs, didn't see duk dog's post above, but if anyone knows maybe post anyway. Thanks.

If you killed a ram this year and you win this permit you don't have to sit out next year, you can use it. However you must harvest a ewe. (the ewe part is fiction)

Just wondering, not nagging or starting a rant but,,, since they are going to give out lottery tags does this mean they are going to make less draws this year? Is this just a money grab or are they going to actually help wildlife and how?
Just wondering so dont rant or nag, im not wanting to thread-jack..

There have been Minister's Sheep and Elk tags for several years now.....so it wont affect your draws considering its a VERY small number of tags in the big scheme.
There is $150,000 that can be made from the sheep permits raffle and $25,000 that can be made from the elk and deer. This is not a money grab, it is used for what it is meant to be used for.....
Hope that helps.....

There is nobody better to answer your questions than someone at one of the above posted phone numbers. Start with Kelly at Hunting For Tomorrow.

Anyone that purchased tickets today, did you happen to question when the mule deer tag will be valid for?

was told today by kelly semple that it is good till dec 20, but myself am a little confused on that one becasue the latest date in any wmu to hunt bucks is nov 30 but you can hunt does till dec 20, so this tag must be a special tag to hunt a buck in that open hunting season.......this is my first time buying the muley tickets so im not sure.
all the other years i know you can hunt the elk till feb 20 , because it is open down south till then, and of course the sheep is until end of november becuase thats when the draw tags can go till,,,,,,but like i say im a little confused about the muley,,,but i bought anyway.
ooops just remembered about camp wainright, is there a mule deer season open there in december , if there is thats why its open till the 20 of december

Thanks for checking Pat. The lady I bought my tickets from today didn't know. Your Camp Wainright theory seems logical to me though. I also picked up a the Mule Deer one just because.
Whats next...... Antelope... maybe Mountain Goat?

CWD zones are open until the 20-Dec so I would imagine that is why the mule buck tag is valid until then. Camp Wainwright hunt is over by then most years.
