Default Honda 2200

Hi,

I have been considering picking up a Honda 2200 suitcase-style generator. They can produce 1800w continuously and have 15 amps on the 120v.

My plan would be to supply a Noma heater that has both a 750w and 1500w setting. The voltage on the heater is listed at 120v/12.5 A. I would also like to supply a boot dryer that should draw very low wattage.

I'm thinking this should be a fairly easy workload for the generator? Is anyone looking to get rid of their Honda?

I’ve got a 2000 Yamaha and with a load like that on it, it would be working very hard. A bigger one would handle it better and get better fuel economy as well because of the lower rpm it would be at with that load. But then you don’t have a nice compact generator. There’s pros and cons to both. I picked up the champion 4500 from Costco a few months ago and I’m very impressed so far. And it’s not overly heavy either like the 3000 watt Yamaha and Honda.

Have you looked on KIJIJI? There’s one in nice looking shape for $800 - that’s a good deal!

I have a 2000 champion and with a 1500 watt space heater she's running pretty hard, the display only shows a few hours until empty on a full tank.

Thanks guys. I was sort of wondering how it translated into real world usage. I inherited an old cargo trailer so I insulated it. I just need power to dry boots and maybe run a bit of heat on cold nights.

Do you know the wattage of your heater? 4 hrs would be ok. I could just take a leak at 2 or 3 and start it up if I’m getting too cold at that point.

It was a 750/1500. My trailer was 16 feet long and it did the job even at -20. Had a roof vent always open.

They make auxiliary fuel tank kits for the small suitcase genys that use a outboard boat motor tank and line with fuel cap that work like a hot damn, use that and the 2000 and your good for at least a couple nights on a tank.

You can compound 2 of the 2000’s as well. But if you are really worried about fuel and if it will run what’s required the Honda 3000 is the way to go.

hi da 3000 seems like a better deal if you can lift it and have room as it is a little larger

Nice. Mine is 14' but I divided it into a cold side and warm side, so the sleeping quarters is actually only 10'. Sounds easy enough to keep warm.

The reason I am thinking of a generator vs a diesel heater is versatility, I don't want to be tied to this trailer.

The new Honda 3200 seems the perfect size, weight and power supply but they are sold out.

That new HOnda 3200 retails for $3200 + tax + dealer set up. You are far better off getting 2 x2200 and linking them . more power at a lower price and the option of only taking 1 with you if you don't need to run the electric heaters.

Happy with my Generac 3000, very quiet and lighter than the Honda or Yamaha 3000. Paid $1000.

Diesel heater or little buddy. Burning gas in a generator to run electric heat is just silly.

Thanks for the input guys!

I will have to reconsider a diesel heater for next year. I looked earlier this year but I don't own anything that's diesel so figured I would wait and see what my usage is like this year. I figured a generator is easy to sell if I go in another direction or to re-purpose. For those that are trying it this year I would be interested to hear the feedback.
