Question Question to you Waterfowl hunters

I was out fishing the Bow river outside the city limits, and saw a ton of ducks and geese along the river, and seeing as the lakes and sloughs are frozen, it got me thinking.

My question is: Is it legal to hunt waterfowl along the Bow River (outside the city limits of course) while staying bellow the high water mark. Basically jump shoot them while walking along the river.

It is my understanding that as long as you access the river legally and stay bellow the high water you are not trespassing. This allows us fisherman along the whole river.

Following other hunting rules of course like discharge a weapon within 200m of an occupied building, and being able to retrieve the bird ect...

It just seems like it would be so easy, but I have never heard or seen anyone do this, which makes me think this may be illegal.

Or is this just something no one does because it is disrespectful or frowned upon. I dont want to have an angry landowner call F&W on me.

The only thing I could find in the regs is on p38. and it reads
Quote:
Restricted Rivers
Hunting of migratory game birds on the following rivers, over any islands
in these rivers or within 91 m (100 yards) of the edge of the waters of these
rivers is prohibited until November 1:
1. Bow River downstream from the corporate limits of the City of Calgary
to Highway 24.
I will be contacting F&W also to be sure, but thanks for any replies or input.

you quoted the right part....but you need to have means to retrieve birds. if you can figure out that part, then good luck.

You think you will be able to fire off a cast after shooting a bird to retrieve it in current?
