Default 7mm mag ?

Just wondering what the thoughs are on a 7mm mag. I was using a friends this year and took a small 4 point at 450yards.1 shot and it didnt take a step just hit the ground. So I thought it was a good gun and I went out and bought one today. I cant aford the glass he had on his but I bought a 700 remington 7mm mag with a 3x9x50 leupold long rang scope. I hope to brake it in today, just wondering if I got a good gun or not. Oh ya I plan on using it for evrything...thanks

Default 7mm mag.

Absolute excellent caliber. Hasn't failed me in the last 32 years. I taken everything from buffalo to coyotes with it, no problems. Good choice.

A little late asking after you bought it? But if you realy want us to confirm what you already knew... yes, you bought decent rifle.

I borrowed a rem 700 in 7mm mag from a friend of my dads for a couple of years, loved it, I mainly shoot a 30-06 though.

Did you look at the 7mm WSM? I've really been thinking of having one built or buying one.

A very good all around cartridge. My brother and nephew use them. A little hard on the deer...so he switched to a bullet that expands less and the result is less jelly. I went to the 300WM, but 7mm was a close contender.

When you can afford it, get the best rings and base you can find. I like Ken Ferrell bases, and TPS rings - http://www.rpsinternational.com/toptics.html

Then the scope.....will be painful if you go too top end.

Default CALIBRE choice

The 7mm Rem. Mag. is my all-time favourite cartridge. Many happy memories with this calibre!

My go to rifle is my remington 700 classic in 7mm. Downed moose, deer, elk and bear with it. You got yourself a fine rifle and calibre.

I got one with the help and advice of some great people on here I took 3 deer this year with mine as well I love it but was limited on money so I got the savage 11/111 trophey xp and I love it I just got to find the right ammo I was using hornedy 154 sst(factory) and almost every deer lost a leg to blood shot but never had to go more than 20 yards to find one also I shold say most shots were under 50yrds so Mabey a lot of gun for the distance. I love it though and never felt a shot on game but felt every shot at the range

7mm is my favorite cartrige. i have used 308, 300 weatherby, 243... and the 7mm is my go to rifle. i had it rebarred a few years ago and put a mcmillan stock on it. also topped with a leupold 6x. i have confidence in the bush with this rifle where ever i go and will continue to use this rifle for the rest of my life. i think you made a very good choice!
