Default Postage rates way too low

Just kidding. Mailed a parcel today by Canada post. 1.437 KG (3.168 lbs)
Size of carton 11 in x 8 1/2 in x 6 in. Total cost ground cheapest was $27.07
Fuel surcharge $5.72 They told me it would 6-8 days for delivery.
Is this reasonable? Shipping was more than the item was worth.

Just as reasonable as the delivery fees on our gas bills, fees amount to 80% of the over all bill.

For anything we ship now we just get one of those flat rate boxes or envelopes. Was gonna send some xmas cards back home last year and would have cost $50.

I sell a few knives each year and the shipping for the sub 400g and 27x10x10 cm parcel costs upwards of $25 depending on the location. The fuel surcharge is often near 25% of the shipping.

It wasn’t long ago I lived in red deer and shipped a lot of stuff into the states and small parcel surface was $4.30. Then it popped up over $20 and I quit mailing things to the states. I was shipping compound bows to the state for less then $30 back when shipping was reasonable and a rifle shipped domestically was under $30. The past ten years it’s been criminal what they charge and the “service” they provide.

For an international comparison. Here in Aus we ship a similar sized box as what you mentioned, up to 5kg for $16.75 and it’ll be delivered the next day.

$73 for an empty hard gun case to Ontario......1/2 was surcharges, they should privatize the thieves.

It's everywhere
I ordered an Aburn controller for my smoker $160 + $54 US delivery shipped by USPS = $304 Can when it hit Toronto I received notice if I pay duty+ taxes ahead of delivery it would make it easier for Canada post to drop it off at my door.
I think I'll wait and pick it up at the post office BTW the box is 8"x8"x12" 2lbs.

The flat rate boxes are the way to go now.

Small is just under $20 for upto 5 kg of weight. Then a med and a larger one.

The med box fits most scopes for shipping and sits under $25. The large is closer to $30

As long as you are under the 5 kg they never ask any questions on what is shipped.

Cheapest way to go for sure.

I can relate to that. Usually though, for knives, around 20 bucks shipping in Alberta in a box for me...
