Default Rusty tire rims

Switched over to my winters and removed some of the rust with a wire brush with my drill. Would evaporust (or another product) get rid of the lingering rust? Tires are on the rims. I would like to paint them up and make them look a bit better (even if it's for the short term).

Thanks

Peter

Clean them up with the wire brush on a drill and mask them off. Black Tremclad spray bombs from Canadian Tire is your cheapest route because unless you get them sandblasted, primed and painted, they will look bad by the end of the winter again. Even after doing the blast & paint, they will look bad in a couple seasons. You can buy Tremclad in a litre can and brush it on if your good with one. No masking.

Can't get away from the sand & salt compounds that put a beating on the paint.

I've used Rust Check rust convertor in the past, worked well enough if you are only gonna paint them anyways

Rust converter followed by rust paint. I did mine 2 years ago without converter and the rust is showing through again.

I put hub caps on my wife's winter tires to cover the rust. Hahaha.

Yeah I realize it will be a short term solution...

Thanks for the tips.

If you have a battery charger, some washing soda & a suitably sized container that fits the wheel, you can de-rust using electrolysis. There are many YouTube videos on the process. I use it on all manner of steel items, often cleaning up horribly rusted items to look as-new (steel pipe fittings for one example). Normally I use 5 gallon buckets but for a bigger item a Rubbermaid tub will suffice
