Default Hunters fund

It constantly occurs that we hunters are being pushed aside by oil companies, lease holders, new parks being created etc. in the States they have a fund that's supported by a small sales tax on outdoor equipment and it creates billions of dollars for environmental rehabilitation etc.

With the advent of paid hunting we'll lose all kinds of hunting areas to the wealthy hunting clubs. Foreigners will probably begin buying leases to hunt here and soon we won't even have a spot for ourselves.

Why haven't we instituted a small fee added to the win card, fishing licence, and hunting licence and tags. This fee should be collected and administered by fish and game clubs to be used for purchase of hunting lands for our future.

Lets hear what folks have to say about this idea.

I believe that was part of the idea behind the "Buck For Wildlife" program a lot of years ago.

Alberta Fish and Game Association came up with the idea and some MLA agreed to push for it if he could claim it was his idea.

When it was in operation the provincial government hesitated to use it to purchase land at first. Lots of good habitat projects came out of it though.

Then the money was turned over to a non-government organization to use (the Alberta Conservation Association).

The Alberta Fish & Game Association buys land for wildlife habitat protection, as do a few other organizations.

I agree .......even the oil spill into Dickson dam trout pond affected one of our favorite trout pond spots. Hunter are some of the best conservationists yet are always at the bottom of the totem pole. One more lost spot!

Thats the Pittman Robertson Act, a tax on hunting/fishing equipment that is supposed to go to enhance wildlife, hunting, conservation etc. In the past several years it seems millions of dollars of that money is going to places it was never intended, or just disappearing, which tends to happen when politicians take money from the public and start handing it out in a corrupt fashion.

Google "Misappropriation of Pitman Robertson Act funds" there should be a few pages come up showing some of whats happening with someof that money.

We already have that. Go out and enjoy hunting on some ACA land.
