Default New tent

Anyone have insight on the bigger tents? I was looking at the cabels 6x12' and the Eskimo 9416i (both insulated). I have a couple young kids I'll be dragging along this winter. I tried last year and we no longer fit in my 4 man ice cube tent with all the extras little people require. I figured going bigger with an insulated tent should be ok with my buddy heater.

Although not insulated, we've been quite happy with our Fish Inn from Costco. We use a 12000 BTU Mr Heater and it keeps us very comfy.

The rapala sherpa6 thats the same as the eskimo 9416 is what i swapped to and it works perfectly. 2 of us did a couple overnight trips no problem. Big buddy keeps it heated just fine and for 2 oversized cots, heater and a stove no problem with room to fish

I have an Eskimo Quickfish 6i, which is on sale at Cabela’s right now. It’s a decent tent. Nice to have two doors. Especially as we are a family of 5. While we can all fit in there it does get cramped. Any bigger tent is going to be heavier though, so keep that in mind.

Default Cabela's tent

My brother in law has one of the large Cabela's insulated tents and it's very roomy and comfortable.

Eskimo Fatfish 9416 ( Non insulated ) is what I have... I have 2 kids (4 and 7) and my wife and we all fit comfortably in it with 1 hole each plus a camera hole and a big buddy heater with a 10lb tank out side....and a flasher... and there is still room ( thank goodness as I will be bringing a dog this year.)

PS - as stated above... its on sale at Wholesale RIGHT NOW!! great price!!

Being a rookie to the frozen water fishing season...Do you always pack up your tent and take it home at end of the day or do you leave it there on the lake and hope some *****hat doesn't come by and "acquire it?"

With the ease of setup, why take the chance?

I would never leave a tent behind, but then there could be as much as 2 weeks before I go fishing again. Also if there was a very windy weather it will demolish your tent for sure as most ice fishing tents are not too resistant to windy conditions.

My vote goes for the Eskimo 9416i. Roomy and it is insulated. Personally I would not buy an ice fishing tent unless it was insulated. Attach a small battery powered fan to a top pole and condensation is not an issue.

I upgraded for the same reason. Family of four and the smaller one worked if I fished outside lol . I went on boxing day last year and bought the https://www.cabelas.ca/product/69761...ap-ice-shelter and am very happy with it. works well. We have fished in a snow storm at -25 with no issues. And they are on sale right now as well .

The wind is just as likely to take it as a thief. Save yourself the pain and just pack it up

9416i is a bit of a beast but really nice once you get it set up.

I'm not really too worried about weight but I figured an insulated one would keep the kids happier longer. Thanks for all the replies.

Just ordered a Clam Escape Ice Thermal. Fully insulated, 900 denier total, looks pretty slick and not too pricey. If you're at all interested in the hub style, check it out. 94 square feet, very roomy.

I've got one of the Eskimo Fatfish 9416's and its deadly. Nice and roomy, keeps the heat in as long as there isnt a howling wind. Easy to set up, and as long as it it screwed down and the windward side is tied off, its weatherproof. highly suggest screwing it down even if there isnt a breeze. Believe me, if a gust happens to come up... its gone.

I had a 9416 for a couple years and it was great.
Since I have upgraded to the 9416i and had for about 4 seasons now, you won't go wrong with this tent. good zippers, good snow skirt and the insulated keeps the heat in very good.

I have a Clam bigfoot 4000T thermal tent I might be willing to sell/trade if you are interested in a quality tent. It's fairly big and easy to set up/take down.
