Africa - First Trip, Simply Amazing :)
Well just returned home from my first, and most certainly not my last, trip over to Africa... Simply fanatastic, can't wait to go back and would recommend to anyone to go over there and experience this. Here's some pics from my trip, enjoy

WOW!
Now that you've been to Africa, everytime someone post their african adventure on AO makes you want to pack your bags and head back NOW
Great animals, looks like you shot just about everything there is to shoot. My guess is next time you go your primary target is going to be Cape Buffalo!

Thanks for all the nice comments. It was such a fantastic trip, I just can't find the words to explain it lol. We left Feb 26 and just returned home yesterday. We were hunting in Northwest South Africa, in the Kalahari desert, right up against the Botswana border ( alas the really really big Kudu were all in Botswana lol typical), about an 8 hr drive pretty much straight west of Jo-burg. I went a little over buget, but hey, was totally worth it lol. Just glad we never did find the Cape Buffalo or the buget would have been totally blown. On my first Kudu, I shot the wrong one lol, have to remember, my other right, guess i had "kudu fever" lol. The accomodations, food, people, total experience was exceptional, and I have to say the Eland meat was out of this world. I did not shoot the lion .. there was a lion "breeding facility" in the region and that young male escpae his pen and need to be darted and relocated back to his home. We were lucky enough to be invited along for the experience and just couldn't say no. The ranch we were on does affer lion, buffalo, elephant and rhino, but those are a little out of my league, and I just don't know if I could bring myself to shoot any of the big five except for a buffalo. At the end of our trip we went to Zimbabwe for a few days and I think I may have to go back there for a buffalo sometime in the future, great country from what i saw, just a little too hot and humid at this time of the year

LOl ya .. she shot her first animal over there as well ... Black Wildbeest, something about the pretty long white eyelashes got her ... and she even dropped him where he stood with one shot ... beginners luck I tried to tell her, but she insists it was skill.

Good on her - you're a lucky man. And her black wildebeest is native to that area too. They're tough critters, took me more than 1 shot to knock mine down. I recognized the red sand of the southern Kalahari.
Are you having your taxidermy done in Africa? Decided on your mounts yet?

Did you do it all with one rifle, or did you use a few different ones? Did you send your own out there or did you rent one?

Mrs PBhunter's Black Wildebeest .. she tells me his name is "Wilbur" and he going on the wall above the bed lol
[IMG] [/IMG]
All the animals were shot using a 7mm REM mag with 175 grain bullets .. the same calibur I shoot here. I used a rifle that they had at camp .. I was going to take my own, however, my sister lives in Zurich Switzerland and originally we were going to stop in for a visit on the way back. Becuase of that and our side trip to Zimbabwe, I elected to not take my own rifle because of the potential hassel of getting "permits" for all those country's. The cost of the trip was on schedule at around 15 k with flights etc... until I shot the second Kudu and the Nyala lol. I am getting the taxidermy work done here in Alberta.

Thanks Pat, ya man those big cats are some awesome .. there just something about them, the way they move and look at at you and there shear size is just mind boggling to me lol ... it was pretty nerve racking knowing that lion could wake up at any moment, eyes open, licking his lips , moving lol , just glad the drugs did there thing and he didn't wake up until he safely back in his enclosure
