Default After seeing SSAMR's coyote / fox thread....

....I was just wondering, what are you guys' thoughts on shooting foxes?

I know 'yote hunting is highly praised around here, but for most of you, if you got a chance at a fox, would you shoot one? How many have shot a fox?

Red Fox – A Resident may, without a licence and at all times of the
year, hunt (but not trap) red fox on any privately owned land to which he
or she has the right of access.

I've always left them alone (fox) but have always enjoyed watching them do their thing in the field. So few from what I've seen vs. coyotes.

Foxes near here have been killing cats, cleaned out an acreage subdivision, and a farm... been asked to remove as many as we can..
Yes we will shoot them...

I am well aware of the regs.

Just don't see too many pics of foxes. I remember quite some time ago a young guy put up a pic of a fox he shot, and though some comments were positive, he got flamed pretty good too by some.

I've shot foxes... full of food.

I took this vid back in 2001. I'm the first guy in the vid and also the one holding the cam for the remainder of the vid. Guy sitting on the truck was a co-worker. Our tool truck blew the drive shaft the day prior so we weren't up to much with the rust bucket we were forced to drive. I use profanity around the 8:20 mark. If this vid breaks forum rules, please delete this post and I apologize.

Default Foxes

Foxes aren't a threat to the deer in any major way, and there aren't many of them around so I give them a pass. When I was in England we had them living in the back yard and they raised a couple litters of pups/kits, lots of fun to watch and I could almost hand feed them. Foxes were way overpopulated, like our coyotes are here so over there I'd have shot them without a second thought....unless they were in the back yard.

They are cat killers for sure but an aggressive cat will easily stand up to a fox, I've seen it many times and the fox usually backs down. I've even seen a cat chasing a fox and stealing its food, so the acreage owners maybe should get better cats . We had a cat that met a fox right at the cat door, cat going out and fox right there, what a hell of a battle that was and the fox lost again.

I shot one a few years back.
What a hassle.
Fell into the edge of a silage put, struggled through snow over my hips and all this to get FLEAS!
Lolololll
Never again for me

Less foxes = more upland birds. They are nest robbers. Just check out a den sometime. They are usually littered with feathers.

Fox are not deer killers and there are not that many around here so we never shoot them.

Default Fine Trophies

All wild animals are beautiful and foxes rank high. But like all wildlife they need to be held in check. An over population of foxes has a high chance of Rabies. Skunks as well. Besides, foxes make beautiful mounts.

I've shot seven fox this year, all in and around our yard. They are killing machines, we've lost chickens, ducks and more cats than I can count to foxes.

I'd love to get one fox with a nice coat just for a mount. Aside from that I won't hunt them, they pose no threat to the species I'm after.

Would not shoot a fox, like them too much. Too few in comparison to yotes.

Same can be said for people that let their cats roam.

Most places in acreage country they are a major cause of mortality in songbirds and upland.

They're quite the little survivors.

Shot one once. Very thin hide and doesn't take high velocity gun damage very well. Taxidermist wasn't impressed.
