Default Alberta resident guided sheep hunt

Hello everyone,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am an Alberta resident looking to find an outfitter or guide to take me on a sheep hunt late October. I have heard the prices can be more reasonable for residents but I am having trouble finding an outfitter. I have been sheep hunting for the last 4 years but always have gone in on foot. Mainly I looking for someone who can take me in on horses and set up a base camp a little further than accessible by foot.

I am looking for late oct.15-31st. Thanks for the help and feed back.

If you just need someone to haul in your camp and pick you up after a week and not show you around then you don’t really need to pay a guide $1000 per day. You could hire anyone with some horses.

What area? South? Central? North? I have a string of mountain horses. I’m in south zone.

I know a guy who rents his gear out and tags along with it
It’s not cheap, but if you can keep up, you’ll shoot a ram

So you post this about an Outfitter and then don't follow up with any information

Default guided sheep hunt

Lot of guides do not like taking Albertans, know they will do their own hunt in following years into the prime areas he took them during payed hunt.

OR, Outfitters take residents into other outfitters areas, but not their own.... Guided resident sheep hunting is making waves.

Precisely why it's my policy to never guide resident hunters, waterfowl being the only exception?
That said, pretty safe bet that 99% of people wouldn't have the means to pull off a back country sheep hunt on their own next year, but still risky, could be they own horses or their buddy does or wutever??
Just shooting yer self in the foot in my experience.

Spend the money on good gear and a gym membership, sheep hunting is hard and takes commitment. If your just looking to kill a ram hiring an outfitter is definitely the way to go, but I don't think you will get the same satisfaction as doing it yourself, I know I wouldn't. I'm on year 5 without a Ram, figure I probably got another couple years of suffering and heartbreak before my time comes.

$10K plus now was the latest I was quoted for a friend of mine.

Also the new “rule” is the only Outfitter allowed to guide a resident in a WMU is the one who holds the NR allocations. In WMUs without allocations I think it’s fair game for any that hold the proper designation.

A great step in my opinion if everything holds true to the agreement 👍

There is no issue with your friend coming along on the hunt with you as a non hunter.

Are you accessing the area from the B.C. side or the Alberta side? I would check into the access issue if you are coming into Alberta from the B.C. side, and then if successful, having to cross back and forth across provincial boundaries with a unplugged ram.

This "rule" should weed out those from the "Gentlemen".

"Funny" how the No Sheep Outfitter area has become open game for Outfitters.

Next on the list of future problems will be the Free for all guiding zone....
