Default How to find a shipper

Hey folks,
I’m trying to figure out how to ship from Ontario to Calgary. I bought a 180lb vise for my workbench on Kijiji, but not sure how to get it shipped out here. Do I use UPS freight or some other outfit ?

Thanks
Jay

Any outfit who does long haul heavy freight, like Canadian Freightways.

Call Frieghtways Calgary, get a shipping quote and a tracking/shipping # , the vise will have to be secured to a half pallet ( 24" x48 ")

The shipping quote will ensure a reasonable price, best to pre pay the lading bill at Calgary ( visa or mc) then pick up your item at nearest local inter carrier nearest your address,

Any long haul trucking company that runs from Ontario to Alberta should be able to do it. Call a few and get a price on them.

You can try:
Payne Transport
Timeline Trucking
Manatoulin Transport
Highway 9
J&R Hall Transport
FedEx Freight Service (likely more expensive option)
Kindersly Transport
Fast Freight
Sokil

These are all companies that I have used and all get the product from point A to B.

Thanks all, this is great info. I rarely ship larger items so didn't really know who's who.

I'll give CF a try - but I've also heard of some of the other companies Jeron mentions

Vitran probably has best pricing for shipping.

180 lbs is getting heavy for couriers, UPS, Fedex & Purolator can do that, but, not sure what they'll charge for it, domestic rates are better than int'l. Greyhound won't take it, too heavy. Freightways is as good as any when it comes to the truckers, Kindersley is good as well. I've used both of them from Ontario, not any of the others. Sure Hwy 9 can likely interline it from Ont., only ever used them in AB.

I ended up calling Canadian Freight-ways, they said they couldn’t help me, to call Kingsway or TST. I ended up going with TST. Thanks for all the great help.
