2019 Moose
With the exception of Dicks blind thread, I’m surprised at the lack of harvest pics here so figured I’d try and get the ball rolling a bit. I had several trail cam pics of this bull, and had seen him in archery season a couple times but never managed to even have a “close” encounter, but he was my target bull and the best ive seen all year in this area.
Yesterday I got lucky and was able to close the distance from about 800yds to 300yds, when he finally had me pegged. He stared head on to me for several minutes, until finally a smaller bull walked past him and got him to turn broadside. The 257wby did its job and then the work began. Great start to rifle season! Bull is 54" at the widest.
I'd also like to say a quick thanks to the landonwers that allow permission......that allow us back year after year to watch these animals develop and take something for the freezer here and there

Great bull, and way to stay on target. Makes the meat taste so much better knowing you worked for it.

Moose
Great bull!
That will fill the freezer nicely.
Nice shout out to the landowners. I hunt a great deal of private land and without that access we would not have that access.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the nice words!
It is an Alberta bull, some where in the north half of the province lol.
And bullet was 110gr ELD-X chronied at 3390fps. This rifle likes those a lot, and have seen 2 moose dropped in their tracks with it, one at 300 and one at 504yds. Elk, deer, bears......I’ll be honest I have a pretty decent collection of calibers and the 257bee has become my go to lately.

Just like gun scribe Layne Simpson wrote “ The .257 Weatherby from mice to Moose”
Congrats on an awesome bull. That cartridge is an absolute laser beam. I miss mine...

Well congrats on a beauty moose! Kinda hard to start a moose thread of harvest pics when you lead with a specimen like that! One tough moose to follow.
Here is my first moose and similarly hunted hard during the bow season and came close but sealed the deal after rifle opened. Special thanks to the recovery team.

Way to go bud. Love the palmated fronts on him and not much broke off either by the looks of it. Congrats.

Those are both great moose; congratulations.
I finally pulled a moose tag this year with 10 years of priority. I made a deal with my 15 year old daughter that if I didn’t get one with my bow, I would add her as a youth partner and let her shoot one with a rifle.
Hunting the moose rut with my bow was a first for me and a lot of fun. We had several close encounters (2 with a 50” bull) and saw a real giant but couldn’t close the deal.
November 1 we were back at it For rifle season. We found a really good bull with several cows but he was 100 yards south of where we had permission. We tried to track down the landowner but had no luck. We watched the same bull that afternoon but he stayed on the other side of the river.
Because we were hunting a couple of hours from home and my daughter’s in school and busy with other activities, we ended up shooting the first decent bull that was on land where we had permission. He’s 50” wide but doesn’t have big pans (one side was almost like an elk). Twig made a good shot with the 30-06 and had a bunch of fun (her bestie also hunts and along with her dad, joined us for the day).
Hopefully the moose populations rebound so I don’t have to wait 10 years to do it again.
